VoID CoNSTRUCT is another example of the great music currently being released from Cryonica Records. Based in Southampton, U.K., Scott Walker started VoID CoNSTRUCT in 1999. Scott is responsible for the synths, samplers, programming, and vocals, with Vicky Halliday adding live programming and management. The music of Scott Walker is the perfect soundtrack to a William Gibson novel and seems destined to be a part of the future of the ambient/EBM scene. The music is similar in scope to Metropolis Records’ Dismantled and Sector 9 Studios‘ Negative Format and God Module. Elements of Haujobb, Front Line Assembly, and :wumpscut: are apparent, but there is enough originality in the music that keeps it from sounding too derivative. The adept utilization of eerie samples from films adds to the overall atmosphere of the CD. This is best exemplified on the blistering opening track, Chemical Burn. More voice samples follow on the manic EBM of Anodyne Impulse and the intrepid track Splintered. One of the best songs on this collection is the ambient title track, Estramay Aleph, complete with sound samples from the movie Pi. What is amazing about this CD is the length of the songs, most of which linger around, or exceed, six minutes. The songs maintain your interest and manage to pummel you with unrelenting energy, creativity, and intelligence. Electrogarden has two VoID CoNSTRUCT songs (Chemical Burn and Critical Mass) on the website for you to listen to. If you like EBM, I recommend that you check them out, along with the MP3s on the band’s website.
