No Comment hail from Germany, which certainly sets the stage for this CD. Slick synth production is a German trademark, and this disc will not disappoint anyone who enjoys tight grooves and a good mix, especially since Jose Alvarez-Brill was involved in the production of this pruduct. The album comes with 11 tracks filled with plenty of memorable hooks and Euro dance club rhythms. No Comment performs in English which helps in discerning the lyrics. The almost childish tone of Franzisca Kalb is a perfect fit for the simple melodics in the tracks. On some tracks, like Silent Scream, the feel is reminiscent of early Berlin, which is a good thing in my opinion.
Little Boy starts off this album with a distinct European club flavor, a steady beat drives this song from start to finish with a very nice chorus. Very light-weight and very nice. I Won't Cry follows next with a slightly more melancholy mood, but it does not take long for the straight beat to return and once more, a nice chorus keeps this song interesting. Silent Scream is next, and as I said earlier, this has a disctinct early Berlin feel, particulalrly when Franzisca's vocals are supported by some male "talk-like" parts in the chorus. A very catchy tune with a four on the floor beat that seems to be a common theme here. Next up, Phoenix, and we leave the four on the floor here and male vocals by Robert Enforsen, lead the track, with Franzisca backing. Some guitars and bass pops are a nice touch here. Lost Angel, brings us back to the Club, so to speak, but I did not find too much here to hold on to except in the chorus. This Is Your Lover Speaking has some interesting vocals, but again, this track does not hold my attention like some of the earlier tracks. The beats are somewhat annoying after a while, actually - maybe the snare sound is a little too much like an 80's song that I can't think of right now. Obsession joins the tracks that do not stand out in my mind, but this song has some good points that may appeal more to other ears. Devil In A Large Sick Dream has a vibe that is different from the other songs on the album, which is a good thing since I was waiting for some variety at that point. This track has some interesting change-ups and overall is a cool listen. Next is Bed Of Stone, and No Comment finally give us a ballad-like track. This song has a nice melody and a haunting feel which makes for a great switch from all of the four on the floor stuff that preceded it thus far. Little Satellite is another one that starts out slow and then picks up some with some detuned acoustic guitars. I was pleasantly surprised here except for the fact that the drums were too high in the mix and dominated this tracks, not too cool. The album ends with Capture, which again is a nice change from some of the earlier tracks that can make one feel that this band can only do a single style, which these later tracks point out is not so at all. This song is nice in that it is not predictable like some of the others and it tends to lead one on a mini-journey, which is what a good song should do.
