A lot of people are saying a lot of good things about Massiv In Mensch right now and on this showing it's easy to see why. This is the follow up to the debut release "Belastendes Materia" from the duo of Daniel Logemann and Mirco Osterthun who have fused exciting techno rhythms, the instrumental freeform feel of trance and the invention and unbridled power of the best EBM to produce an album that provides instant satisfaction and continues to deliver even further upon subsequent listens.
The opening "Scheiders Spaere" not only has all the above attributes in abundance it also has a melodic base that is is instantly memorable, never repetitious but always progressing in a manner that doesn't sound like a cover up for lack of compositional skills, these two know what it's all about. "Mein Erstese Bonbon" is based on the Psyche track "The Hiding Place" (which MIM also remixed) and maintains the powerful feel that the band have made their own with some excellent melodics to boot.
Once this pattern is established it is largely stuck to throughout although "Hoffnung Ist Das Seil..." does veer closer to established EBM styles but the music is always inspired in such a way that just when you think the album is going to run out of steam there's always an unexpected but somehow logical sound, melody or rhythmic kick to ensure this never even threatens to become likely and that is what sets this album apart from so many of it's ilk. Whether it's the brooding chords that grace the marvellous "Maskulin", the guitar-like sounds used on "Entferner", George Salatic's simple but effective spoken voice which add an essential German feel to the pacey "Massiv In Mensch" (I like eponymous tracks, for some reason, especially when they're as powerful as this!), Sarah Folkens' wordless ethereal vocals on "Endorph-Fusion Vs. Reiner's Festung" or the storming finish that is the "Tritonin Mix" of "Earl" they always manage to pull that extra something out of the hat that's always exciting but never overtly harsh. The result is a triumphant album that proclaims Massiv In Mensch as a major new talent in the electronic music world.
