Leiahdorus is a refreshing breath of fresh air within the synthpop genre where originality is about as rare as xenon. ‘Wake’ is an incredibly well crafted love song from the Ashes, Ashes album. The three remixes included on the single are all noteworthy. The System 22 remix manages to gradually dissect the ethereality from the original version and replaces it with a growing intensity. The Count To Infinity remix is relentless from the start with the attention paid to the fibrillating programmed beats. The Wave In Head mix is closest to the original version in spirit, as it does not deviate, structurally, too far from the original. The emphasis is more focused on the pure synthpop aspect of the song as the acoustic instruments are either removed or subdued. ‘Eventually’ is an original track not found on the Ashes, Ashes album. The song begins with a piano introduction that could have been culled from a Rachmaninov composition, then ventures into the synthpop world of Leiahdorus. I will admit to not listening to the Ashes, Ashes CD as of yet, but if ‘Wake’ is an example the Jason Smith’s musical prowess, I imagine the album to be an exceptional listening experience.
