SEEMLESS
This debut from US duo of Rob Vogel and Adam Moore announces the arrival of a promising new name you electroheads will do well to make note of. While the band have an obvious American feel, the harsh echoed vocals in particular bringing to mind bands such as Diverje or Noxious Emotion, their darker style reminds me in several places of Leather Strip. This is especially noticeable in the slower interludes such as the opening "Ground Zero" (a popular title since 11th September 2001!) or the brooding "My" where the heartbeat-style backing to the darkly cosmic opening sections bring to mind the sighting of the embryo from "2001". Although Inure (and I'm sure they'd be the first to admit this) have not yet reached that high standard that Claus Larsen achieved the potential here is considerable and "The Gift Of Machine" also has this soundtrack-like darkly majestic feel. This is an area that the band would do well to explore further, in addition to their obvious song writing talents which, it must be said, are pretty considerable.
The slight 'rough around the edges' feel is nothing that further experience and greater recording facilities won't put right and the songs soon prove their worth with the superb "Malediction" and "Daar Staan Hy" keep the mood dark and the beats going strong with a solid rhythmic backing while the ravey effects of "Contort" show that the band are sensibly looking in more than one place for their influences. It's difficult to pick out any defining track that could become their anthem or is likely to become their 'signature tune' although the more melodically inclined "Freeze" might be a good place for newcomers to start.
Since the release of this album the band have signed to the excellent German label Dying Culture which will hopefully aid their progression through the electro scene. For now, though Inure have put together a very enjoyable and competent debut with a potent collection of songs that should stand them in good stead for a successful future.
