POP ROBOT
Second album featuring 14 original tracks, once again featuring the same style and sound as their debut album ‘Martian Anthems’, again a heavy Kraftwerk influence but the tracks here are more up-tempo and there are the occasional tracks that add something different like the piano led ‘Under Your Spell’ and ‘Sachs Theme’.
The best tracks here include ‘Into Your Life’ (one of their catchiest tracks) and the mid-paced tracks ‘I Work For The Government’, ‘Swinging Pendulums’ (a track recently remixed by Wave In Head), ‘Munich Robots’ and with its treated vocals ‘Pop Robots’, other good tracks include the mid-paced ‘Hand On The Gun (also released by the band as a single) and ‘Firebird Sweet’, one of their fastest tracks is ‘Eastern Lights’ (blending together Kraftwerk and the Pet Shop Boys) while the piano led classic style of the instrumental Sach’s Theme’ comes across like an old Ultravox b-side, another instrumental is the slow to mid-paced ‘Robot Love’ while ‘Film Star’ and ‘Paralysed’ are other tracks with more than a hint of the Pet Shop Boys. Once more another promising album. Ninthwave Records are releasing an ‘Expanded Version’ of ‘Pop Robot’ in January 2002.
