NERVOUS TIMES
Another of the myriad German synthpop bands Days Of Fate have put together a good release that sees them developing a pleasingly chunky style. The opening title track stays pretty much within the synthpop traditions with solid melodics & an instantly memorable chorus that should appeal to fans of Wolfsheim et al. "The Time Is Right" is similar in style & shows that the band are now in with a real chance of carving out a niche of their own in the synthpop world.
The accoustic version of this track will probably shock many synthpoppers with it's combination of acoustic guitar & vocals but it's something different at least. The Absurd Minds mix is a bit harder hitting although the fact that the band's characteristic style never really takes hold means that it's potential is never fully realised.A great shame as I expected something really special from them.
The lighter & happier "Bizarre Love Triangle", which appears in two different versions ought to appeal to those who like the lighter American synthpop styles (the fact that one of them is called the 'US Edit' might be a bit of a clue here!!) while the "Split Mix" is slightly less fluffy. It's harmless enough & although never matches the title track in terms of gravity or feeling does boast another memorable chorus which means that this should have wide appeal.
If Days Of Fate can keep this standard up on their forthcoming album "Home Made Cake Of The Day" then 2003 could well be a great year for them.
