Days Of Fate have seemingly fallen into the 'another German band' category where you know their name but don't seem to hear anything by them. Well, judging from this album that's a major injustice that needs to be put right. While their music will inevitably be labelled 'synthpop' Days Of Fate have actually taken their music several steps forward by melding several musical styles into the essential synthpop blueprint, a little like De/Vision who would seem to be this band's spiritual forefathers. The britpop-like opening that is "Perfect Time" where a superb atmsopheric chorus is the track's highlight or the cutting edge electronics of the title track, where more cutting edge synths match De/Vision's finest moments while the synthleads reminded me slightly of Gary Numan, even if, at 6 minutes it does run out of steam slightly towards the end.
This is very much a 'pop' album but it is very high quality pop with a wealth of ideas such as the Middle East feel of "Reality" or the reflective closer "Fields Of Inspiration" keeping the listener's interest right to the very end. The preceeding single "Nervous Times" proves an irresisitably catchy piece with a hook that is impossible to ignore and the equally superb "Maybe" tugs at the heartstrings and proves what a good vocalist the band have in Torsten K. Many vocalists fall on their faces when asked to emote in a foreign language but in this case he manages to pick out the nuances of the superb piano and synths interplay and the result is a surefire winner. Likewise the up-tempo "Covent Garden" proves that either their knowledge of London streets is very good or they've got hold of a copy of the "London Streetfinder"!! This, along with "Leaving My Avenue Today" stays closer to more established synthpop styles but equally shows that the band have developed a characteristic style and sound, something that is especially evident during the trancey "X-pose" and "Eternally". When so many dance-orientated tracks tend to be slightly faceless this is a major plus point for Days Of Fate and just one more reason, in addition to those already mentioned why you should seek this album out.
