“Electric Bitch” is the brand new single from the U.K. band Conspiracy. Consisting of John Murphy (vocals, guitar, programming), Claire D. (synths), and Mark Barker (live synths), the band displays their love for early U.K. goth, punk, and synthpop, all the while maintaining originality and conveying an exhilarating club-friendly sound.
The “Electric Bitch” track is the strongest on the CD in terms of club play. The Philtrator remix is an interesting rendition of the song, but I find that it numbs the impact of the original a bit. “Solitude” starts with moody synth and vocals, maneuvers deftly past directional ambivalence, and gains intensity and aim as the song progresses straight toward greatness.
Anxiety can confound the brain of a writer when words seem to ineffectually convey the urgency of the message intended. Words will have to suffice in order for me to gently shake you from your peaceful post- holiday slumber. Please, seek this band out. Go to the shows. Buy the single. Tell your DJ friends to play this song in clubs. Conspiracy’s sound reminds me of music heard in an early 80’s NYC club like Danceteria. Though those days of drunken rides in the Danceteria elevator are decidedly past, it is nice to hear some urgency and excitement in the music again. Despite my teary-eyed memories, Conspiracy is definitely not another electro-viral mutation seeking to cozy up against some nostalgic corpse. Another great aspect of Conspiracy is that they do not sound like any other band that I can recall, which is really cool. So if you like a band that defies convenient categories, that is original in their delivery but respectful of the past, and that makes music that beckons you to leave your warm nest of pillows and blankets, brave the weather, and dance like naughty boys and girls, please check them out. There is really no excuse not to. Santa’s not looking anymore!
