The Norwegian trio Code 64 first came to my attention through their involvement as remixers on Bruderschaft's "Forever". That indicated that here was a band with promise and anyone who enjoys the smoother end of 'future pop' will find much to their liking here.
Throughout this is a very listenable, dynamic and easily accessable album that will undoubtedly have wide appeal and in Henrik Piehl they have a vocalist with the range to match any of today's most popular singers and who provides the perfect accompaniment to such dyamic songs such as "Resistance" which gets the album off to a flying start or the uplifting "Finding Me" while the up-tempo lovesong "Without You" should resonate with broken hearted souls everywhere. The only songs that seem destined for dancefloor success are the harder hitting closer "Exit" which feels like a combination of Icon Of Coil mixed with Giorgio Moroder-like sequences and "In Your Arms", although the opening seonds might cause you to think it's actually the intro to Covenant's "Dead Stars" until the lack of the Kraftwerk sample gives the game away, at least!!
There is one problem, however and that's the duration. At 38 minutes it's not exactly overdoing it, even taking in the usual 'quality vs quantity' arguments. The accompanying single of "Without You" which is presented as part of the double limited edition version partly makes up for this and this, considering the album's brevity, is the only sensible option. Included are 3 versions of the title track, the inevitable 'radio mix' and remixes from Spektron (who they?) and a stunning EBM version from Swedish band Z Prochek which is pretty much worth the price of admission on it's own as well as a new track, the nicely atmospheric "Protection" and the 'original mix' of "Reaktor"
Code 64 have made a good start with this debut and those who enjoy the more accessable 'future pop' styles this should find this a worthwhile purchase.
