I remember seeing Clan Of Xymox play in London a few years ago & their lacklustre set left me with the impression that this was a band best avoided. My opinion soon changed when I heard this excellent EP, released on the German Pandaimonium label which will appeal not only to their established goth audience but also to electro fans who don't mind the guitars that play a major part in this track's fluency. I originally thought that the remixes, by Swedish EBM masters Run Level Zero & the Italian act The Frozen Autumn (with a suprisingly electro-styled mix) were put on to give this release dancefloor appeal but to be honest the original manages this quite superbly on it's own & the only real difference between the original & the "Club Mix" is the fact that it's slightly shorter & does away with the convoluted opening.Even the darkwave-flavoured mix from Fading Colours has it's own ambient rhythms just to add a bit of impetus to proceedings.
Keeping up the forthright mood the harsh & dark "Courageous" provides another electro assault. If Funker Vogt's name were put to this everyone would be creaming over it which is proof postive of this track's appeal so do yourselves a favour & give it a listen. All of which means that the more traditionally gothy "The Second Time" makes for a welcome change of pace although the uplifting & positive chorus at once contrasts & accentuates the track's deep & reflective feel.
This superb release may well force some electro fans to reconsider their opinion of Clan Of Xymox & regard them with renewed interest, it certainly did with me!
