What makes a synthpop addict? |

You know, I've been an addict my whole life of good synthpop (hell, even mediocore synthpop). I love other styles of music, but for some reason, when I write, I can only write synthpop, and then, and only then, honestly feel like I've expressed myself truthfully as a musician. Now, all of us (I assume) want our music to be relevant. I have this nawing suspicion I'm not simply living in the past, that the genre has life. Listen to any big hit today in top 40/hip-hop, almost all have a 70's/80's new wave sample in them. It's nuts. We're all addicted, albeit subconciously. In any case, I've always wondered what the psychological draw is. My band Plot Device is my best attempt at my own interpretation of the genre. I'm working on new stuff all the time. But I'm curious, why the addiction? It would be so much easier to just pick up an acoustic guitar and not brush my teeth for a few years, grow a beard and move to Portland. Singer/songwriters are all the rage these days.
