Biography

Tony Reed was born in 1972 in El Cajon, CA. During the early and middle eighties, Tony was exposed to synthpop from the likes of Devo, Soft Cell, Men Without Hats, New Order, and Erasure. He was hooked to the sound so much that in 1987, he formed a band called “the Euphemisms” which released some very poppy demo cassettes performed with sub-professional electronic instruments.

In 1991, Tony joined the political post-punk band Café graffiti. The band recorded an albums worth of material, but had no releases before their breakup in 1993. Tony returned to writing and performing synthpop.

In 1998, Tony was invited to contribute a track to a compilation called "Galactic Wav.s vol 3". The disc sold out within a few months and was never reprinted. The next year, Tony added his name to the list of independent artists that contributed their music to the first incarnation of MP3.com His singles “Hopeless”, “Breathing”, and “Slippery” topped the Eurodance charts for most of the summer that year. That summer also saw the release of Tony’s first album “Liquid” on MP3.coms "Digital Automatic Music" label.  “Slippery” emerged early-on as a live favorite. This is, perhaps, ironic as the track was initially recorded for and refused by Starcrash records for their compilation.

In 2001, Tony was again inspired to write a full albums worth of material. This time he decided to write an entire album about love, for better or worse. The result was “Love” released that summer on Digital Automatic Music. The album received rave reviews. The sound of Love was more techno-influenced than Liquid. The most popular songs being “Words”, “Close” and “Speak To Me”. Tony immediately began live shows to support the album.

Later that year, Tony was invited to contribute a song the compilation, "United Synthpop Artists - Tribute To America". For this compilation, Tony reworked a song from Café Graffiti called “F#m Piece” to a more electronic sound. The new version was called “America At War” after the news title on one of the american cable news stations. The albums proceeds went to the Robin Hood Relief Fund which helped families and victims of the events of September 11th, 2001.

In 2002, Tony found himself bored with music and took a hiatis to try his hand at stand-up comedy.

In 2004, Tony was invited to add his vocal and lyrical talent to an untitled piece of music by Bobby Clark, AKA "Synthetik FM". The finished product was called “Shame”. This song inspired Tony to get back into the studio. He began writing songs and playing them live to fine tune them The resulting album was called, “Lost” released in 2005.

Where Love contained some techno-influence, Lost was heavily influenced by trance bands like Sylver, Milk Inc., and Lasgo. The album scored even greater critical acclaim and moderately successful sales. The tracks, “Please”, “Gone”, “Holding On”, and “Hypocrite” were as danceable as they were politically charged, hearkening back to his days with Café Graffiti.

Tony continues to perform regularly and is currently writing another political album tentatively titled, “Listen”.
