But read between the lines and you'll unearth much more: a veiled world of secrets and silences, loves and losses, laughter and loathing...and just maybe a map of the beating human heart.
A look inside songwriter Peter Riley's dossier would reveal half a life kicking at the pop fringes: first as the teenage frontman for underground electropop act JOY MACHINE, all but unknown until their Lazarus-like resurrection online; as the architect of SAINTFACE, a guitar-driven five-piece that managed to genuflect to Britpop and Tin Pan Alley in equal measure; and finally as the compiler of THE DOSSIER, a duo that effectively marries the terse electronic pulse of the former with the swooping pop theatrics of the latter.
Aided and abetted by Saintface lieutenant and boyhood brother-in-arms Michael Parkin, THE DOSSIER fleshes out the file with a potent mix of galloping electronics and throbbing basslines, swooning digital soundscapes and stomping glam confections, always with a lyrical eye on the foibles and follies of the subject just out of arm's reach.
