cool guess that some people would differ but i guess i agree. harsher sounds does not always mean industrial. so then i would have to ask you if you think that ministry is industrial

i think ministry had a brief time where they might be considered industrial, imo. they started as new wave (synthpop, whatever), then morphed (and it's this time i refer to as their brief industrial stint), then they became a 'hard rock' band with extra beats and some sequences.

imo, to cut to the chase, industrial has to include band members striking things, sampling/triggering found sounds/noise, and possibly playing typical instruments in an unorthodox way...not just someone standing behind a synth with beats and sequences blaring, yelling about the random shocking topic of the day.

but with every new generation, music gets reclassified, renamed. and thats why i said earlier, 'depends who you ask.' for instance, is it psychedelic or acid rock, is it synthpop or new wave, is it new wave or postpunk, is it raincoat or britpop, is it psychedelic or shoegaze, is it chamber or pop, is it pop or twee, is it industrial or ebm, is it americana or alt country?

definitions shift as time goes on. the point is, if it strikes a chord in you, enjoy it, support it, enjoy it some more.

7.

This is an interesting topic. There is a great article on industrial music here on this site and the writer walks through some of the history of this style. I recommend you guys read it to get a more detailed analysis.
