Thread: early Mode sounding like Fad Gadget

Default early Mode sounding like Fad Gadget

As I listened to the chorus in Fad Gadget's "Lady Shave", an image of an older Depeche Mode song popped into my head and I haven't been able to get it out of there. Unfortunately, I have yet to replace much of my DM collection inherited by my EX-girlfriend, so I couldn't reference it. I could be mistaken, but if anyone could help me, I'd appreciate it.

DM and FadGadget were the pop and not so pop (respectively)puppets of Daniel Miller who was also "the normal" , and owner of Mute records, to whom all 3 were signed.

IN the early days Daniel used to make the records pretty much, in his studio, with his synths. A bit like a pete waterman type character.

He had a big impact on the sound.

Quite a few of the really early B-Movie songs also had that unmistakable sound as Stevo also had a big hand in DM's discovery getting their demo tape and getting it to Daniel Miller...A lot of the Some Bizarre bands had that staple sound...I really like that old minimalistic new wave-ish sound...

I'd have to pull out my old 7" and see for sure what the name of the b-side to Lady Shave is called, but it was very fast paced, really dancy and poppy for Tovey and Fad Gadget...Lady Shave is the song that got me into Fad Gadget, and it was Collapsing New People, Fireside Favorites, etc etc..It just grew from there

I think it was Lady Shave that got me into Fad Gadget, but it could have been Ricky's Hand. I also like Back To Nature.

So I might have mistaken Fad Gadget for Mode from first listen (based on the riff), and that just stuck with me over the years.
