What is the most NON-synth/ebm/goth/industrial concert you have ever seen?

For those of us who have been around for a while, I'm sure that you have seen some concerts that are far removed from the genre of music that has brought us all to this forum. What is the oddest show that you have ever seen?

A few years ago, my (now ex) girlfriend and I began making a joke about singing Tom Jones songs in public as an appropriate responce to various things that people would say. Neither of us was into his music or anything, it was just something to annoy people with. Anyway, one thing led to another and someone gave us tickets to see him in Atlantic City, NJ. I have to say that seeing a short, extremely sweaty man jumping around on stage wiping his brow with women's panties and singing that 'hip' music was one of the most enjoyable shows that I have ever been to. Everyone in the audience was singing along and it was a great vibe. Just goes to show that a joke really can be taken too far.

mmmmm Immortal/Decide/UK SUBS/The Expoited all excelent shows from Black Metal to PUNK.....Girl School,Beki Bondage and The Sex Pistols i loved em all well the Black Metal was ok but it was because athere are no goths who live in south london im one of the few and then im more ebm/industrial/new wave new romantic....

Actually PULP.....bloody excelent 1995 brixton acadaemy as a 16 yr old!!!.....

Pulp could be classed as Electroclash as they were doing it since 1983 andformed in 1978 took till 1995 to make it but were classed as Indie ....superb band!!!

95% of the shows ive seen are non synth.
though BruceHornsby (ask gordonctrl about him ):> ) playing synth and piano with theGratefulDead was odd.

also first show i ever saw at age 13 was White Zombie with Pantera..

God..tons of hair metal concerts in the late 80's...a few country when i was younger with my parents....I saw the Jackson's victory tour in 1984....

I go to a lot of punk and indie shows as well.......A very non synth show that was one of the most amazing performances that i have EVER seen was Nina Simone in 1998 on the Pier in Seattle. Gorgeous night with one of the most powerful voice in Jazz/Blues...she was a senior citizen, but so full of spark and power...it was one of those "goosebumps throughout the whole show and for like a week after" concerts....she is VERY missed (She passed away a few months ago).....

My wife took me to see Tina Turner twice on her farewell tour a couple of years ago, and we had a good time both times. I suppose that Tina has a synthpop connection since she was recorded songs written by the Pet Shop Boys, but her opening acts are a different story.
The first time the opening act was Lionel Richie. He was actually pretty good, even though my wife didn't recognize his name it slowly dawned on her that early 80's aor radio was dominated by his songs. It was amusing to see a couple of women in their 40's and 50's getting terribly excited to see Lionel while their husbands sat in their seats with annoyed looks.
Six months later when Tina came back around for her final farewell date (I guess the tour got extended when they figured out they could make some more money) the opening act was Joe Cocker. We found our seats while he was playing a completely funk-free version of a Bob Marley song and found ourselves laughing through the whole set. He was a little too old and too fat be as cool as he apparently thought he was and it was just a bit too silly. The best part of the show was when he played air piano during the instrumental section of "You Are So Beautiful." It just said so much somehow. He just hadn't aged very well, and someone needs to tell him that he doesn't really "rock" anymore.

My ex boyfriend took me to see Tina in 1997, and she was pretty amazing....but in all honesty, the main reason I went was that Cyndi Lauper opened for her...she was phenomenal....

well my GF and I are going to see Queensryche and Dream Theatre
in a week or so..... Green Apple Quick Step is good live, saw them a few times, and once with Gruntruck (definitely not synthpop).

When I was 10 I won tickets to see Reba McEntire (for those of you who haven't heard of her, she was about as hard core country as you can get -- of course before she got on a sitcom...) At the time I was in heaven....and I still freak my friends out with how many country songs I know by heart

But hey, that's what happens when you grow up in New Mexico.

Here's my list:

NKOTB (twice), Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (yes, they had an album out!), Stone Temple Pilots, Candlebox, Budweiser Superfest (Montel Jordan, Mary J. Blige, Boyz II Men), Boyz II Men again, Toadies (twice), Tripping Daisy, Funland, Emilio, Sigur Ros, Everclear, Sponge (I got onstage and sung with them, heh), R. Kelly & LL Cool J, the nixons, Carmen.....

And I've been to several festivals with bands like Matchbox 20, No Doubt (who I fell asleep on!), Lisa Loeb, and others....

There's been ALOT more.... but I'm just too lazy to think of them all right now.

Most of these.... well all except for Sigur, I saw when I was in my early teens.... so most of them I'm not too proud of right now. Heh.

Actually, most of the concerts I've attended were not synthpop/electro/industrial oriented. But many of them seemed to be piano oriented.

My first concert, I saw Billy Joel in 1986. He is the biggest non-synth influence on my own stuff....I basically learned songwriting from him. He put on one hell of a show. He only pulls out a synth to perform "Pressure".

Another excellent show, and the biggest surprise, was Debbie Gibson in 1988. She never got much respect, but she put on a great show, she can play piano dammit, and.....god she is tiny! Like 5 foot nuthin.
