    I knew I recognized you!!

You know one of the things that CRACKED ME UP THE MOST about the 80s? When Eddie Van Halen started playing some keyboards.

Everyone jizzed themselves over his "brilliance" as a keyboardist and were saying stupid stuff like "Man, he's as good of a keyboardist as he is a guitarist"...

Not that he sucks as a guitarist because he doesn't but those synth leads are less complicated than what's usually accomplished by a 5 year old during their first year of piano lessons with "Mrs. Smith next door".

Delobbo--you've opened Pandora's Box. Who knows? You may find Eddie's solo work on ADD. How could you forget "Janie's Cryin'?" or "Runnin' With the Devil?" or "F*** tha Police?" Woops, that last one was NWA, sorry.

Don't be surprised if this thread gets the "delete" button soon. I just got an email from "the man" accusing me of staging this thread to get attention. Anyone else get an email telling you to keep this kind of discussion off the forums and take it directly to the EG Gods? Well, that's censorship. Why shouldn't we be allowed to challenge the practices of this site publicly? I was hoping that the owners would come in and make a statement, but as you can see...no such thing has occurred.

It was explained to me that the artists that dominate the "top 40" are "premium" artists...so to translate:

If you want to be a "top 40" artist at Electrogarden you must pay to achieve such status. Ahh, reminds me of all the other sell out sites like MP3.com. So, basically you can be in the "top 40" regardless of how little talent you have. Is that REALLY how it's supposed to work? I suppose the answer would be "yes" if we lived in a communist country.

OK, I've said enough. Maybe the next move is to revoke my membership?

I for one must say that it doesn't surprise me. I want "the powers that be" to know that if this thread was "staged" by midihead, I was completley unaware, and have spoken my words out of my own free will...

Let the chips fall where they may, but banning Midihead will only prove his point in general anyways......cutting off ones nose to spite their face only leaves you with a bad sense of smell.

Hehehehe... you didn't know this was going on?

This place has a history of doing all sorts of things to manipulate how the forums run.

I've seen certain promotional posts by individuals with administrator/moderator priveleges kept elevated in the "Recent Posts" list even though no one was replying to it.

I've also seen SEVERAL threads just totally disappear (not even just "CLOSED") because they contained material that called into the question the very things you are talking about.

I wouldn't be surprised if this thread went the same way soon.

THAT'S what makes me dislike this place. It certainly isn't the people because there are VERY good people on here.

This place has become a very unsuccessful advertisement for Gebrauche-Musik and someone's very pissed off about that.

    Bummer, ehh?

The EGN Charts are calculated using a broad criteria. Premium artists do have an advantage in the charts under the current setup mainly because guests that are not registered can play the tracks where only members can stream the non-premium artists. If some feel that is rigging and selling out, fine.

Threads are closed and deleted only when they become abusive, too vulgar, infringe on member privacy, or otherwise break forum rules. There is no random thread removal. Otherwise we take a lot of care in keeping this forum clean and organized.

It is not easy to moderate a public forum, anyone that has ever had to do it knows that. As a public internet space, the more popular the site becomes, the harder it is to maintain a degree of quality in the forum.

This place has become a very unsuccessful advertisement for Gebrauche-Musik and someone's very pissed off about that.
That is just plain ridiculous. There are other premium artists on this site that dominate the charts, but no one has been able to dethrone Iris and some ADD bands that are always in the top 5 and Iris is always #1 so what is your point? Again, there is a broad criteria controlling the chart movement.

Ok. Let me be perfectly clear here. I started this thread, through and out of MY OWN WILL. Yes, I can think for myself (shocking). The FACT of the matter is, when I found out what I found out (i.e. what's in my first post) - I felt the need to post this, period. I will readily give credit where credit is due. And that's all I was doing with this thread. I really did not think it would become something like this. I mean why? Why should it have? It started out as just a piece of history. A random anecdote. A "factoid". That's all it was. How it has turned into this, I don't know. Maybe its for the better that this issue has come into full view (whereas before it might have been speculation)... If this thread is deleted/locked, it will only prove that point... I guess we shall wait and see. But - I think the bigger issue has already been demonstrated, regardless of what happens now....

My response here is not in the capacity of a representative of the Electrogarden. It is here strictly as a personal opinion and does not neccessarily represent the EGN official position ...

    That being said ....

Do you realize that the "owners" of this site have dumped thousands of dollars into this site and are operating at a loss for the love of the music? If you do not like the site then don't come to it. If you care enough and can do it better, pony up the bucks and make your own site. I am sick of all you armchair quarterbacks who are paranoid schizophrenic and think the world is out to get them. NEW FLASH PEOPLE >>> NO ONE HERE IS THAT IMPORTANT >>> at this point at least.

Are you all so paranoid that you actually think that there is POLITICO behind the site? You got to be kidding me. I pretty much am the only person who posts a damn thing on this site on a consitent basis who has any official affiliation with the EGN, and I can say that my responses are in no way political, just my own damn opinion ... you all are as responsible as anyone for creating cliques within the community.

You keep tearing down the site but you keep coming back. Do yourself a favor and if you hate it so much stay away. Maybe the charts should go away completely? Maybe the free music should become a part of the history .... or better yet keep the meat of the site and ditch these forums. They serve as much a destructive element for the scene as positive one. People like to tear down to make themselves feel better. Step up to the plate people ... do it better ... do it your way ... it's a free country ... you can have your opinions but don't expect people to sit back and always agree with you. Threads only get locked or deleted once they become abusive or profane. If you have a problem with that I am sure there are tons of porn chats site that you could visit.

That's all I have to say ... go ahead and tear me down for my opinion now. Maybe you would all prefer no EGN ... maybe that is closer to reality than you all realize.

    Angry

Introspect Stands up, applaudes Craig (#2 guy on the egn spectrum).

You truly do have, and have always have had, the balls to speak your mind. I think that we should all get something out of what Craig has said...... I'm sure that it seems odd that the most visible EGN admin would say something like that....there are no pedestals here, just a bunch of people that enjoy a particular genre / scene. I have to agree,
I'm sure that no-one here truly wants EGN to "vanish", and I for one do appreciate that time effort and funds that have gone into making this little "fight club" of a sight! Actually, I get a lot of great things from this site, but I still stand by my statement that there is way too much ego-throwing, attitude mashing arrogance. Let's stop with all the damn Bullsh*t, and get back to what we do best......supporting the scene, supporting each other, and supporting a website that allows us the freedom to discuss our thoughts, ideas, and so-forth in a reasonable and decent manner.

I'm done with this thread I think....feel free to bash me to.........

With all my support for Craig/KTS, Midihead, and the rest of you!

I went through a phase where I did stay away from EGN for a long time (I think about a year, somewhere between 2002-2003). I know, nobody noticed (and I wouldn't have expected anyone to). That's cool. No, I don't come on here for recognition or to feel important. But anyways, I came back here for some reason and got active (to some extent) in the threads again... not sure why. So that's that. Ok I guess I just won't speak my mind anymore - not like I'm the most vocal person on this site... Either that, or not come to the site. That's cool, I think I can handle that.

I do have to say this is a valuable site with good infos and things to learn about the scene, and music to hear. Very good, I will readily give it credit for that. It's just too bad that you feel like you are walking on broken glass here, because somebody might not like what you say. But "it's a free country", right? Interesting.

If I knew this thread would have generated this kind of response, it is doubtful I would have posted it...

Thumbs down Dooood...what are u saying?

    Craig,

Are you TRYING to turn this into a SHOUTING match so you can get the thread shut down? Calm thyself...take a valium or some thorazine or something. Your biased, so how can your rant be taken seriously? There's no possible way you can look at this from any other perspective than from the ivory tower you think you're in. Not only that but how in the name of Hades can we take someone seriously who left a loving wife and 5 children to be a rock star? You call us paranoid? If I were you I'd be the paranoid one, sir. Woops, that just shut the thread down.

You've got this dual middle finger flashing attitude that didn't need to be. I don't recall coming in here with my guns a blazing. I'm just simply calling it as I see it...no one is proving me otherwise. You've got to understand something however, this site was MY brainchild...a part of me. You can't possibly understand what it's like to have been forced to give something you loved so dearly up because you couldn't make it survive on your own...and no one offered to help, either. It was like giving up your child for adoption because you're too handicapped to take care of it anymore. There are plenty of fools out there spreading the story that selling the site was my original intention. Those people don't know me, because if they did they wouldn't make such foolish accusations. I had faith that Electrogarden was being placed into the right hands. Things were going well, and then slowly...I started hearing stories like the one about Venus Hum. Apparently they weren't big enough to get an article on this site...until they had gotten some radio play. Then it was like this frenzy to get their contact info. This attitude is against the WHY I started Electrogarden in the first place. Rigging up the "top 40", playing big brother with the forums, gratuitous self promotion by the owners...all things that I'm against. Forgive me but it was like seeing that baby grow up in a home full of abuse and neglect. I'm probably the ONLY one who will understand this. I too put A LOT of sleepless nights, blood, sweat and tears into this site to get it off the ground. Don't you talk to me as if I've never lifted a finger for Electrogarden.

All of the other stuff you said aside, Mike, I think that his comments about the contributions to the site were more aimed at people like myself.

Listen, this site is where my "online friends" hang out and that is, by far, the only reason I even visit this site. The forums. With all of this silly, sometime pedantic, drama I think there's also a lot positive things going on that are hard to see.

But.... I'm calling it as I see it... the Userbase of this site is NO LESS responsible for its sucess than the people who, I might add CHOOSE to own it. Yes, CHOOSE. This group of people could have assembled the same resources in any number of ways and would have.

If all my friends were to suddenly change sites to say, Synthpop.NET (who actually run similar software and have forums), I'd follow in a heartbeat. I'm not here for the site, I'm here for two things... the forums and well... occasionally content here and there, maybe the occasional song ... all stuff I could get just about anywhere else, however.

So let's take the administrators off the Ivory Tower as well, shall we? They choose to take that loss and shouldn't be expecting some sort of sainthood for it.

That was way across the line Mike ... you have NO IDEA what is going on in my personal life ... as I also happen to know much about your personal life and issues in your marriage but would never air it here on a public forum. Is that what Jesus would do? Is that a Christian way of addressing an issue? You just showed your true colors and yes it is likely this thread will be shut down now ...

Good luck with your life ...

Thanks for making this personal Mike.
