Question Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix

Am I the only one on this board juvenille enough to be excited about its release? The wife and I stood for half an hour with a bunch of kiddies to grab our pre-reserved copies. Damned if I didn't have to push a few of the little cretins out of the way to be one of the first!

God, what a life I have!

You're not the only one Jup. I'll be getting my copy very soon. The wife will get to read it first in my household. Luckily she goes through books like a knife through butter.

I'm currently reading a wonderful book called "Book of Shadows" by James Reese. It's a sensual, gothic tale about a hermaphroditic witch. Can't put it down. I'm planning on picking up the new Harry Potter after I finish. No major rush, but I am wondering how the next book will deal with all the things that were left off in the last book while still keeping it at the target age level.

robotiko1, was that a troll ? Is that ironic or WHAT? A troll in a thread about fantasy fiction. If you don't like it, don't read it.

Heh, actually that was an Orc, a creature far more sinister and devious.

Seriously though, I tried getting into the first HP and just couldn’t. I felt C.S. Lewis did much better decades ago and Tolkien, well that just goes without saying. However, I certainly understand the appeal of HP and the fact that kids (and adults) are reading and exercising their minds and imaginations is enough for a little leniency.

Tal’liyne, I’ll be the Aragorn to your Legolas. And together, like the days of yore when we walked the Paths of the Dead and defeated the Corsairs, so be it now again. With Andruil in hand, forged by the Telchar of Nogrod, and thee with the Bow of Galadriel we will smite the minions of Potter and restore sanity to Middle-Earth!

    ...god i'm a dork. =(;>

soon, The Return of the King!

Back in high school....I tried to read the Tolkien books. I really did. But found them utterly boring. ::ducks::
I did manage to read all of "The Hobbit". I don't know why I couldn't get through the others. I mean,....I did like other fantasy books. Like Piers Anthony's books.
    iouno
To tell you all the truth,....I really wasn't that into the first movie either. ...until recently when I started watching the extended version at home. ....and The Two Towers was ok....well...better then the first.

Robotiko, try reading the 2 and 3 book, it gets better and the style smooths out.

I think it helps to be the right age too. I read C S Lewis when I was about 12 and it struck me as the most amazing thing ever. If I was 12 I think HP would be my world. As an adult (hehehehe) I just enjoy it as a light read. As the series goes on Rowling has done a much better job fleshing out the world of HP...

    NICE PCITURE JUPITER 4 yeaaaaaahhh!

That's alright mate! Tolkien isn't for everyone, particularly in secondary school when there are so many other distractions! Most of us are assigned to read these books at this time in our lives when there are so many other fustrations to deal with! Tolkien's work and wording are a bit advanced for the modern day reader!

I instantly fell in love with Tolkien when I first read the Hobbit and the Simarillion and moved on from there to his other works and other fantasy based books, but then again, I am sort of a goof! After all, I have always held a high regard for Shakespeare and in some ways Tolkien mirrored that in some of his style of writing!

Now that you are more mature and educated, maybe you'll consider giving Middle-Earth another go! If not, that's ok as well!

Oh, and **hee hee**, I see that you've purchased (I gather) the FOTR (EE-Extended Edition) because you're not a fan and it's dreadfully horrid! j/k dear! Cheers!

Yes I did. Little secret (well..not so for people who know me well), I'm a huge movie fan. I converted the family room here into a home theater, and I cannot deny that FOTR looks freaking fantastic on this system. I'll admit,...I prefer the movie then the book. Yeah...I know that is easy the way out. It also doesn't hurt that the company I work for owns all 3 LOTR movies,....and Harry Potter as well. Now I can't wait for The Two Towers to come out as an extended cut later this year. I won't deny that they are quality movies.
Maybe I will try to read the books again sometime in the near future. I think you are right about the destractions back then.

Not exactly. We (and by we, I mean the company I work for) owns New Line. Long story. ...and probably one not to drag out in this thread.
