Lunch was wonderful, dear! Thank you for asking!
Actually just finished the fifth HP book myself...egad, much learned, much still unknown. I am hoping that Rowling will follow Harry beyond Hogwarts--"Harry Potter and the Application for Public Assistance" ; "Harry Potter and the Awful Flat Roomate" ; "Harry Potter and the Drunken, Forgotten Night" "Harry Potter and the Great Electro-Clash Controversy"
Having finished the fifth book, I know not what to do. I am re-reading some CS Lewis (The Narnia Chronicles)...but I don't know about this Lord of the Rings business. Very much overhyped in the media **sarcasm** Was Dudley Moore a Hobbit?
Also, my Lord, Kirilian!
You just have to love this man (in a completely Platonic way, of course!)--here we are discussing the two biggest film phenomena of the ages and he works in nasty cabin boys!

That's great melibita! I think you'll love the two remaining books (really four condensed into two) of the trilogy! Bear in mind however that you should gather some tissues for the final chapters of "Return of the King"! There will not be a dry eye in sight! :sobbing: What an epic-emotional journey, and I'm not generally emotional!
Just remember...Wed., 17th of December..the world-wide release of..
RETURN OF THE KING
Be there!![]()

Oh, yeah, wait until I'm out to lunch and then hijack the thread. Hey--We'll round up some Death Eaters and Dementors and then--its on! Beware the Avada Kedavara curse!
Impedimenta!
But, you gotta admit, there's worse stuff to read than HP or LOR.
Remember the Avada Kedavara curse is Unforgivable! You don't want to end up in Azkaban, do you? :P haha

I guess I am a mixture of both then?![]()
Meli--what did you think of the fifth installment? I just finished, and I am not sure if I liked it as much as the others...sorry about the unforgivable curse threat. Robotiko knows that I'd never throw him that one...wand's in the shop anyway!
You can bridge out two worlds! See what EGN can do!

You can bridge out two worlds! See what EGN can do!(if only I felt that way about people haha) But I think this was great in the way that it is opening up, telling us what is going to happen in the future. I wanna talk abotu what happened but I don't want to give anything away to the people who have not finished the book or have not read it yet. But it was so sad, the ending

Damn those Death Eaters!

Melib, you may want to re-visit LOTR: The Fellowship of the Ring again, so as to give the story some fluidity! I am not sure as to how long ago you read it, but I definitely makes for a refresher when you start anew and everything that was lost or forgotten will be remembered! The Two Towers and Return of the King will read better then! Hope you enjoy it and you'll need about two boxes of tissues then!Originally posted by melibita

The big question.. what caused the death exactly? The curse or the arch?
Oh I think it was the arch, because there was so much emphasis on it! Just a hunch though, hmmm...

Ok I will, that was such an excellent book. I read it almost 3 years ago. Oh that part of the balrog (however you spell it)... when I was watching the movie I was so excited about seeing how they would show it. Ah that part in the book was definitely one of my favorite parts. I liked how they showed Legolas in the movie... mwahaha.![]()

What exactly does LOTR have to do with Harry Potter? Am I not the only one to see this? Where is the competition? Both are great. LOTR is a classic. HP is well-written, too! The movies were BOTH great.
Choose your battles.
Jamie
Maybe unbeknownest to you, but there is a huge battle between LOTR devotee's and HP fans! Of course you'll have a few that are fond of both! Many try to compare the two and say which one is better, but I believe that you can't really, simply because the two are so different! HP is for a more juvenile, light-hearted crowd whilst LOTR is a more advanced read: an epic, emotional-bound classic piece of literature! Also J.R.R. Tolkien is known as the grandfather of all modern day fantasy and even J.K. Rowling like almost all fantasy writers admit to being influenced greatly by Tolkien's works because they are so thorough and well done! The man was a brilliant professor versed in cultural history and languages, and the like!

What did you think of the Balrog scene in the film! I though it was brilliant and couldn't have envisioned it better myself! It looked so real with the heat sweltering from it's mouth! And, after Gandalf fell into the abyss in the Mines of Moria I can still honestly say that each time I view it, it's still makes me gasp, and a pang of emotion flows though me! Perhaps, it because the remaining Fellowship who witnessed the battle between Gandalf and the Balrog and his subsequent fall react so convincingly brilliant! I remember every time I read that chapter in the book, it makes me feel exactly the way I felt whilst watching the film because it's almost a perfect re-enactment!
As for my beloved Legolas (my favourite character from the book), what more can I say but......SIMPLY IRRESISTABLE...and DEADLY ACCURATE! An Elf-Lord of few words and outstanding action! I can't go on enough about this trilogy (both books and films)!!Nam`aarië!!

I know this. I am fully aware, love. But both are enjoyable. Perhaps on different levels? The complexities of Tolkien's work, and the simplicity of Rowling's are both wonderful. I think they compliment each other quite well.Originally posted by Tal`liyne

Alright so, Potterheads... if you were a first-year at Hogwarts, which house do you think the Sorting Hat would put you in? I think it would put me in Gryffindor.![]()
I personally think what will happen in the future:
(1) Harry and Snape will form some sort of connection. Harry will apologize for the mistreatment foisted upon Snape by his father and the others, saying he knows what it is like to be lonely and isolated.
(2) Ron and Harry will realize what is under their collective noses and finally fall for Hermione. This will be a point of contention between them.
(3) Ron will become an excellent Quidditch player and perhaps be drafted onto some minor league team.
(4) Neville will come back from the summer unrecognizable--he will be a stud for whom all of the girls swoon. Now that he has the confidence...
(5) Snape might finally find love...Hermione and Harry willo fix him up so he is not so greasy--at least for the night. Maybe he and Tonks will hit it off.
(6) Draco and Harry will form some sort of strange alliance once he finds out what daddy Luscuius is all about. Who knows--they may even become close friends.
(7) Dumbledore, McGonogall and Hagrid will spend thousands of Galleons on synthesizers and form a retro-Electro-pop group.
By the way...I wound up in Ravenclaw.
