Thread: Can Someone Explain The Perpetual #1?

Question Can Someone Explain The Perpetual #1?

So, Iris' "Annie, Would I Lie To you" is perpetually topping the EGN chart.

Now, I like the song and all, but it is four years old. Isn't it time to move on??

How is it that this song is always there, everyday?

I think the chart positions are determined by number of plays in a week plus member feedback. Also, EGN is constantly getting new members, and a good number of members who visit regularly or semi-regularly use the site mostly to listen to the music (believe Admin posted this somewhere). When I first joined EGN, I wasn't all that familiar with the electronic scene (still can't say that I am now, even), and so I'd play the stuff that a lot of other people played first to get a feel for what was "in", and then experimented with some of the less popular tracks. Probably others are doing the same.

This is not a bash at ALL. For some reason "Annie would I lie to you" doesn't faze me at all. It's some dope production-but i could improve on some of it. The vocals don't seem to be as amazing as I've read. PLEASE, do not take this as a bash on Iris. I have only heard this song a couple times and that's its. Any suggestions for shiiit I should check out. (w/ Iris or any other REALly good synth pop) I already know a lot. But if any one has any suggestions. I dig And One, Daft Punk, Timo Maas, Apop, VNV, Machines of Loving Grace, MLTTTK, NIN, Aphex, Squarepusher, Die Warzau, Beborn Beton, COVENANT,(they really do kick ass) anything dope!!

I LOVE Annie, Would I Lie To You?, but I would LOVE to see Unknown, Vacant, Whatever, In Spite, etc. on the charts. I don't know how they change the songs that are up for listening. Hmmm.

alright stephanie, doll. I'm listening to the system 22 mix of "lose in wanting" and it's damn cool. What technoisey sintie pop should sound like. Heartfealt lyrics too. Are they from L.A.?

Well, I understand that people visiting the site are going to listen to the top 10 first, but of all songs that have ever been in the top 10, "Annie" has never left...it's bizarre....why would all the other songs in the top 10 eventually fade, but not that one?

I know that Cody lives here in LA. I don't think that he's originally from LA though.

    I would recommend the following:

iris~Awakening, Disconnect. As far as singles from Disconnect, I highly recommend that you check out the Lose In Wanting Single. The Sonar Eclipse mix is incredible! I also recommend Saving Time for the Everybody Is Life B side. I LOVE this band!!!!! . They are going to be releasing a remix album in the coming months. They are hoping to put all their singles from Disconnect onto one cd. It's going to be groovy!!

mesh~The Point At Which It Falls Apart, Who Watches Over Me?, Fragmente II, In This Place Forever, Fragile, Original 91-93, On This Tour Forever (live), Fragmente I. mesh are incredible!!!! You will LOVE them!

Alpha Conspiracy~Cipher (Andrew of iris also is in Alpha Conspiracy. He's extremely talented!!) This is IDM. It's groovy!

Low Technicians~Rembrance. They have been been compared to New Order. It's a fair comparison and it's an amazing album!

Angels and Agony~Eternity. Ronan from VNV produced this album. It's excellent!

Leiahdorus~Ashes, Ashes. This is an excellent album! It's produced by Joey B. of The Echoing Green.

    Echo Image~Compuphonic

Provision~Evaporate. This band is amazing!!! You will be movin and grovin in NO time!

Do you have any Icon of Coil albums? I bet you do. I LOVE them too!

    What about T.O.Y. and De/Vision?

    These should get you going.

I would like to see "Heal" from Michigan.

I also am digging "Division" from NuKleon.

Thanks DJ...I just wanted to clarify that 'Division' was originally written by simulator who can be found right here on EGN. I simply did a feature for 'Division' where I wrote the vocal melody+lyrics and performed a vocal for it. Glad you like it.

As for my music recommendation in addition to some excellent bands already mentioned...I recently discovered Elegant Machinery and am completely smitten. 'Yesterday Man' is a CD I've listened to at least 20 times now...amazing stuff. I think over the 4 CD's I have from them there are maybe 2 songs I am tempted to skip, but never do.

Speaking of Elegant Machinery, is "Words of Wisdom" available on CD??

I think Soviet has done some really good stuff, "Commute" in particular.

    Hi Chris,

Words of Wisdom can be found on 'Decade of Thoughts', a 'best of' compilation. That's a great song, indeed.

I wouldnt worry about it : being no 1 is a bit of a curse anyway : it makes you the Status Quo of the synthpop scene ! LOL
