Default Jimmy Eat World best "mainstream" band?

Ok their self-titled debut has been around for awhile. And I popped into my CD player for the first time in awhile and damn ... they are maybe the best mainstream band around right now. That CD is solid from track 1 to track 11.

    Thoughts?

bleed american is actually their fifth album and their second major label album. they've been around for a while but also were the victims of the crazy consolidations of the major labels in 98-99. it's a great album but for more money, i think that radiohead has set the bar so high for music right now, regardless of genre, that most others are just competing for oxygen in the world.

    just an opinion

ahhh my bad, the album is no longer titled "Bleed American" by the way. I don't pretend to be an authority on the band. Thanks for clarifying that. Just assumed it was since it was a self titled release (ass outta u and me). Just came from their website.

Yeah Radiohead is maybe the most important band of the 90s in many respects. But I'm not as into their more recent releases.

Yeah Lit is good as well. I was into them back in 1999 when they were big with "My Own Worst Enemy".

Also was into Harvey Danger in the late 90s when I lived in Seattle. They were a good Seattle band from the U of Washington district. Haven't heard much from them since I left. Last hit I heard from them was "Sad Sweetheart of the Rodeo".

Actually J.E.W. are from Tempe Arizona

I've been a huge fan since their debut E.P. came out around 95 or so...Lucky Denver Mint was a KROQ staple in the late 90's, and the Bleed American album (as it's written on my cd) is probably their best one yet...The Middle, Bleed American, Praise Chorus, oh damn fine songs...I'm going to play some now!!!

Oh and I agree, they are one of the best mainstream rock bands out now

Pretty sure the title was changed from "Bleed American" after September 11th.

Ahhh yes, quite right Dan The Man. I got to see them at a benefit concert they did in Mesa in November. They were really good live!!! We were very lucky and got right up close to the stage. Unfortunately, that's where the Mosh Pit was too. I didn't mind dodging a few bodies to see them up close. Before the concert started, I got to talk briefly with one of the parents of one of the guys in the band. He said the last few years have been pretty crazy, but he's loved every minute of it. He gets to travel a lot with them. Sounds like fun.

Here's something funny. During the concert, the lead singer dropped the F-Bomb while he was going off on TicketMaster. Most of everyone in the audience was either jr. high age, a parent or Mormon, so it got REALLY quiet for a minute. It was quite amusing. By the end of the show, he apologized for saying it.

The guys in the band actually graduated from Mt View High School in Mesa. Mt View was our rival H.S. when I was younger. There's a couple of people from my church who graduated the same year as they did and know them personally.
