---I Missed your Initial Post, but If you're the one who came up with that, it surely has caught on because I've been hearing that word for the last few months in the Clubs and On Line.

    mmmmKay...

    interesting little bit of lineage.

well, good luck with the productizing attempt, worse ideas have been known to make people millions...

not quite sure what I think about it, frankly, because it sort of flys in the face of how i view music ~ not to mention the utility of an underground scene.... then again, i'm not on a label and never intend to be... i can call my music whatever i want to.

i think i'll name it "stuff that dave made in his basement (tm)"

Congratulations, now all you need to do is copyright it (e.g. Larry Tee and "electroclash"). Then put together a tour and market (to the ends of the earth) , Nu-Goth as the next nu thing.

    lol

I'll be honest I never thought our stuff fit into most of the genre's people have been putting us in lately. Some said Synthpop, Darkwave, Electro-Goth, touches of this , touches of that, blah, blah, blah. It was getting to the point I was going to bill us as a polka band and be done with it....hehehe....So you won me over .....Nu-Goth it is.

Finally a place where I can call "home"..*sigh*

LOL....no trademarks, no credit given. I feel that genres are just a classification. Let's look at, oh, say, the 80's for example

New Wave was the classification for bands like:

    Katrina and the Waves
    Cindy Lauper
    The Bangles
    The go-go's BUT

    also classified

    Frankie goes to hollywood
    Depeche Mode
    The Cult
    Billy Idol
    Duran Duran

All of whom had completely different sounds / styles / fashions / you name it. None of them were "new wave", but people like classifications, makes them feel "safe" in what they hear / see / do.

Post new wave came "modern rock" (same great bands, different name)

(btw.......this is all stemming from my faltering memory. The 80's WERE sooooooo long ago... Don't hate me if you don't agree with the above statements)

So, with that said, "Nu-goth" is just a classification. Don't get too hung up on it, for this may be the fashion today, tomorrow they could call it "Dave's basement stuff"

But, for now, Nu-Goth it is, spread the word, make me smile, for tomorrow is yet another day!

    Sincerely,

    Sean Patrick

    hehehe music marketing is humorous.

i never have and never will actually "get the joke" with all of that. musicology can be even worse though (musicology=study of music in a cultural/historical context).... most of the time they use musical elements to greak down styles and miss the mark terribly because they don't acknowledge cultural conext. (in american music).

it's one big saturday night live skit.

    peace

    On the nu-goth topic:

Sean, are you saying that we should aviod the problem with classifications by introducing yet another classification that none ever heard of. Seems kind of unlogic.

Hey, I make that kind of music too!!!! Let's get all the Dave's together and make a compilation, then we can have Dave at Ninthwave distribute it.

    Martin.....

Hey, I thought you were on my side! LOL

    Dave V.,

Dave's not home! (old cheech and chong skit)

    Cliff,

If it's one big SNL skit, I want you as the lead role! heheh

Martin, it's not logical, it's just the way it is. Which, by the way, is the whole point behind my above statement. People like classifications as I said, for example, how many different classifications of Christian are there? Different styles, different views, but all comes down to one big picture....in the case of this thread, Good Music. (no, I'm not trying to make Nu-goth the Nu-religion, don't even go there! LOL) But I kinda like the classification (for now, the fashion may change as I said)

I grew up in the 80's listening to Punk (The Damned, The Clash) , New Wave/New Romantic (Duran Duran, Japan, Visage), Gothic (X-Mal Deutchland, And Also The Trees) to Synthpop (Erasure, Blancmange). Then the 1990s came around and Grunge (Pearl Jam, Nirvana) and the new Manchester scene stuff (Inspiral Carpets, Soup Dragons) which I did not like at all as it was quite boring stuff.. The record labels dropped most of the bands (or the bands broke up) that I had been listening to so I spent the best part of the 1990's re-collecting my record collection on CDs & waiting for the next album by The Cure, Depeche Mode, Frontline Assembly or Erasure to come out. Sure there were a few other bands like Shamen, My Life With Thrill Kill, Meat Beat Manifesto etc. that were interesting to me but it was not until I gained access to the internet in 1998 that I discovered that there were fantastic bands like De/Vision, Beborn, Wolfsheim & Brave New World out there. I had rediscovered the next stage in evolution of Alternative Electronic Music (hey a new term AEM!!).. evolved where New Wave had left off... (I've forgotten what I was responding to now!?!)

    Dani

Oh yeah now I remember what my point is.... it's all great music that is Underground based and a real Alternative type of music.
If I watch over you... who watches over Me?
