Default Apoptygma Berzerk & The Man Who Sold The World

I was just listening to David Bowie's "The Man Who Sold the World" and I couldn't help but notice how similar the guitar that makes the intro of the song (and is used all over the song in fact) is similar to something used in Apoptygma Berzerk's "Mourn".
Now... I don't want to acuse anyone, but who do you think could have been "stealing" other's ideas ?

It has been well documented the this sample was used in Mourn. In the liner notes it is actually credited to Kurt Cobain and Nirvana. Nirvana covered "The Man who Sold the World" for MTV Unplugged.
\"Man, you go through life, you try to be nice to people, you struggle against the urge to punch ‘em in the face, and for what?! For some pimply little puke to treat you like dirt. Well I’m better than dirt ... well most kinds of dirt. I mean, not that fancy, store-bought dirt. That stuff’s loaded with nutrients. I can’t compete with that.\"

I didn't know if was mentioned. Couldn't check since I didn't bring "7" with me to work (don't do that for a looooong time in fact).
I just listened to the Bowie song now and couldn't help but post.
Credited or not, it's still... not the most creative thing to do.
Plus, he should have credited Bowie and not Nirvana. Who is Nirvana anyway ? A 1-hit-wonder from the 90's I think...

I am just in a mood to bring things down today, so don't mind my posts.

I think sampeling is a very creative thing to do. Its nice to capture the mood of a song some times and use parts of it.

Its not really stealing. Anything over a certian ammount of time. I forget the exact length, has to be approved by the origonal artist. I know this doesnt always happen. Just look at it as a sort of flattery.

There's a huge amount of stolen stuff in APB. Recently discovered that the lead synth from Starsign is ripped off from an Astral Projection track. And I'm still baffled by the use of the bells from U2's New Years Day in a Metallica cover song... at least the Nirvana/Bowie thing is credited.

I like sampling, somewhat. I use drum samples all the time. But there's a difference between sampling and stealing. And this is a topic that should probably be opened up in the electronic artists' forum, but oh well.

Sampling is taking a sound, a small sound, like a drum hit or a synth note, things like that. It doesn't mean taking an entire riff out of a song. When you get into that sort of thing, you start acting like Puff Daddy. There's a difference between using sampling as a creative tool and ripping off a riff from a song out of inability to write one for yourself.

And I think APB is definitely an example of laziness and/or lack of creativity. I mean, how often have you heard Stephan just sing a verse twice instead of writing a second verse for a song? I rest my case.
