Default Gary Numan back in UK Charts !

Gary Numan is back in the UK charts with a Industrial Sounding track from his excellent Pure album.

    The song is called RIP.

Just though Id post becasue Im such a big fan, and its great to see the odd ocassional good record in the chart.

I find it quite embarasing in the the UK : There's very little good music in the charts, and I have this role reversal thing going on with my parants, where I dont like anything in the charts, but the MOR boy bands are right up their street.

In 1982 I remember it was the other way round !

I luv the record "exile" from GM.. I remember when he performed here in Hollywood at the Palace, he sang the song "down in the park" and Marylin Manson popped out from clouds and joined GM.. I did not expect that but I thought it was cool.. Also Switchblade Symphony(opening band from San Fran was topped notch too as well.

Pure is quite a good album from Mr. Numan. A very industrial inspired work. I love "I can't breathe", with it's over the top smashing sample of a car door slamming over and over. (Rivals Blixa even.)

But, what he began with Sacrifice, continued with Exile, and made blatant with Pure... is really getting old. How many albums do you think it takes for listeners (religious or not) to get tired of hearing how much Gary Webb "hates God"? I'm glad to see that he continues to make music to this day, but I wish he would find new subject matter. He made his point, then beat it into the ground, pulled it out, burnt it, glued the ashes back together, and took a chainsaw to it all over again, and again, and...

I actually agree with your points about the subject matter. Interestingly, there was a limited edition Interview CD that came with Pure that explains what the songs mean etc, and a lot of the subtexts for the songs add a greater meaning If you have heard it (which almost no-one has).

But yeah, it all boils down to the big man getting a ticking off in the end. I hope he'll do something different next, but along as the musics good, I might let him off !

    Unhappy

Unfortunately I bought a promo off eBay way before the actual album was released (stateside at least), so I didn't get that perk. I must say though, the album is pretty good. This is the Numan (music wise) I love. So much better than when he was trying to be the next Peter Gabriel back in the late 80's. (No offense folks, but it was blatant.)

He did tour for Pure as well. It's funny to me that the shows were all ages, yet the lyrics were evil as all hell. I don't think I'd want any kids listening to some of those songs.

Next peter gabrial ? Thats interesting, but I can see it ... can you think of any tracks that sound similar ? Late 80s for me would be
    Outland, Machine and soul ?

Wasn't there some lady-pop-group who ripped of the music of "are friends electric" and put their own lyrics on top of it?

    I can't stop.
    The skin game.
    Machine and soul.
    Miracles.
    London times.

    Bad Numan tracks.

Luckily back in the day... and now in the future... Gary proves he is a talented, if evil, musician. His talent flourishes when he's in dark mode.

I have to agree with Eddie on this one. Gary Numan's darkest works ARE usually his best. My favorite album is The Pleasure Principle though. I'm glad he quit trying to please the masses with the pop-sensible stuff he did, especially Machine & Soul. Ack. Those diva-choruses make me pukey.

Much love for the Numan though! Give us more!

I can totally agree these are all bad tracks. London times is totally without merit.

But hey, you cant win them all !
