Best Macbook?

I'm a macnoob. I've been strictly hardware for a number of years until my analog's started to die. I've swallowed the bad softsynth medicine and accepted my fate and I'm ready to buy my first mac.

They dinked around with the macbook batteries recently and dropped the prices a little. Just want an opinion on the best macbook that can run my software without overpaying for extra ghz I won't need. Keep in mind this is for music only, I won't be using it for games at all.

I'm also wondering about audio interfaces? Any recommendations?

Saw this a bit late, have you made your purchase yet? If not, I think you can safely go with any of the current MacBook Pro laptop models and have sufficient horsepower to run your apps. They all have Firewire ports (though it's Firewire 800...you'll need an adapter to use older Firewire 400 devices).

Your biggest decision will be screen size. I favor the 17" model because I like the screen real estate (I run Reason, Logic, and some plugins), but some people think that it's just too friggin' big. My 17" MacBook Pro is three years old and has been an absolute workhorse for me, just really dependable.

As an audio interface I'm using an Alesis MultiMix 8 FireWire which I quite like but it seems to have been discontinued, unfortunately.
