On "Enjoy the Silence", my co-worker thought the lyrics were:

    "pleasures remain, soldiers burping"

    I scolded her accordingly.

How the heck did she come up with that!!! Was she wondering if that's why the song has that title?

He's been known to grab his crotch onstage and he's sung the entire lyrics of "What's Your Name?", so how can "burping" be any worse?

So I'm feeling really cavalier and I say ah...call me if you want to...huh, yeah...call me if you want to.
So she rang me up and she says, "Hey! Do you wanna go out?" Huh, Do I wanna go out?'
Huh! Do i wanna Go Out???

Your Sir F-Ing RULE!!!! YES!!! I love this song. Jen Foxx from Provision turned me onto thsi band and we picked up "AEIOU sometimes Y" on 12in while on the visualize tour for like 50 cents in mint condition.

We've got the video too on a Semi-Heaven VHS compilation we got off ebay. Have you ever seen the video? It rules!!!!

    EBN-OZN!!!!
    Hell Yea!!!

I can't think of any lyrics I think are terrible or silly but this reminds me of a funny event...

We were at an Anything Box concert in 1994 or so as they'd just released Hope and we had a big group of friends with us including all the members of U-N-I (My former band) and all of our girlfriends.

Our drummer Jason was dating a real airhead at the time and right after ABOX performed Living in Oblivion she blurtted out "Uhhh I don't get it. Why is he so afraid of living in Bolivia".

Later During "Hypocrites" when Claude sings "Hypocrites! We are Hypocrites" in the chorus, we could hear her singing along. Only she was saying "Immigrants, we are Immigrants".

In the end I couldn't figure out if she was just stupid or half deaf.

It made for some great humor though...

I have both the 12" of AEIOU and the Feeling Cavalier LP on nowhere-near-mint vinyl. I've never seen it on CD, but if I did I'd snap it up. "Pop Art... Pop Art BOP!"

R.I.P. EBN. That man knew his way around a Fairlight. Just ask Scritti Politti.

I've never seen the video..I always imagined what it must be like whenever I heard the song though. I think I stumbled onto EBN OZN from an 80s compilation...maybe Living In Oblivion Volume Something circa 1994-ish. It's a classic!

"soldiers burping" was also heard by a friend of mine, and became a recurring thread on the Bong list about 13 years ago...

Most lyrics are awful. The vast, vast majority of bands, english or otherwise, can't write good lyrics. Synthpop tends to be especially egregious, ever since "Here in my car, I can lock all my doors."
