Thread: name your current sounds

    Default name your current sounds

What is the current sound to you in our beautiful Electronica world?
(Erasure, DM, and other releated sounds are NOT current).
    www.myspace.com/pswk
    www.popstarwhokills.com (ElectroRock)
    www.myspace.com/youngjoon (Breaks)
    www.myspace.com/grep (IDM)
    www.myspace.com/requiemnoise (Industrial)

\"There is no abstract art. You must always start with something. Afterward you can remove all traces of reality.\"
    - Pablo Picasso

\"The world only goes round by misunderstanding.\"
    - Charles Baudelaire

    \"It is quality, not quantity.\"

\"why is it feel like a greatful dead show here? like that hippe that constantly talks about one band and how they changed their lives.\"

PLEASE NO MORE \"I am a robot music.\" You are not a robot. Learn to program better like human beings.\"

Electro is House music. If you don\'t like House music, please don\'t put down Electro, because it is trendy to say it. It might suprise you that Electro and House music were invented by Gay Black Americans in the mid 80s. They weren\'t invented by the beatless people who like to coin new trendy phrases.

I am so tired of \"I want to be Depeche Mode or Erasure for the last 25 years.\" I hope I am not the only one. 25 years is a quarter of century and about a 1/3 of human life. If a person spends a 1/3 of his or her life having the same tastes, I don\'t know if that person acquired enough information to have an interesting life or has a problem understanding he or she is no longer a teenager.

So called artists who never change, why do you call yourself an artist again?

I'll tell you what man, if you want honest posts in this thread, I have freakin' TRIED and TRIED, but my sorry butt is STUCK in the 80's with DM and Erasure, Soft Cell, etc...I mean, I got into Apoptygma and VNV for about two albums, but that's about as current as I can get nowadays. Songs have to speak to me and my life they way those "old" bands do so it's really tough for me to find anything out there. But I have to keep trying cause' for all I know, someday there will be something that grabs my ears and makes me collect again! Sorry I could'nt be more help, but hey! To each his/her own, right?

Don't worry about it. Most people over 30 don't keep up with the current sounds. That is just a generation gap. Only reason, I keep up is I am a musician. It is part of my job to know and learn new music.

I'm really into bands like Linkin' Park at the moment. Yeah yeah,..so they are big right now and it's not cool to be "into" bands that are big. To defend my taste though, I liked them since their first album first came out and on sale as a "break through" artist for $6.99 at Best Buy. heh. Anyway...yes...I like their mix of "nu metal" with electronics. I just can't get enough of it. I bought their new live DVD/CD this past tuesday.
    Sorry it's not technically synthpop/electronic.

Wolfsheim are my absolute favourite and lately I've also been listening to Melotron, VNV and Covenant a lot. Oh, and of course De/Vision.

I've been catching up with some "newer" (to me) acts thanks to some kind donations and suggestions:

    Alpine Stars
    Kings of Convienience
    Royksopp
Erlend Oye (this guy writes some killer songs!)

I listen to BT because he's a boy wonder with the electronics however I am so underwhelmed with his song material.

Lesse... William Orbit. I can't seem to get enough of him lately... older skewl I know but he has a great sense of mood.

There's more and my christmas list is stuff full of new CDs.

I'm looking forward to a few "EGN SCENE" CDs as well... Cosmicity and Color Theory both have new releases in the pipe. I'm sure those will both be pretty damn schaweet.

and I'm saying goofy things. Mid-morning snack time with the babies... by yall!

Anything related to 'Breaks'. Breakbeat is the way forward for me. Also been listening to a lot of electro e.g. Two Lone Swordsmen, Dave Clarke and anything else that can be called 'dark' and 'funky'. Also I checked some of the new 'Acid House' stuff e.g. Plastikman, Jon Cater and the new Josh Wink. All three are brilliant.. Very 'dark' and 'minimal'..

hornblas is right on... breaks are very hot right now...

Acid House is also making a small comeback... although it probably wont come back completely

its weird... its like there are strong tracks coming out in alot of genres... good drum'n'bass tracks... great breaks tracks... good downtempo tracks... good house tracks.. decent trance tracks...

its a good time for good music...

for some good house music check out anything by Brett Johnson, JV, Darren DuVall, RedEye, and Demarkus Lewis

for good breaks check out The Carbon Community and Son Of Electric Ghost

i agree with some of you. breaks and house are sooo freaking HOT right now... trance sounds so outdated now... it feels like 1995 all over again with the commercial pop trance hitting the dance chart. also idm and glitch are making a come back as some people are starting to get sooo sick of current pop trends too...
i noticed lots of people i know are starting to listen to coil, aphex twins, autechre, and others again.. the electro is going through
major changes too. i think lots of people are getting tired of larry tee flavor electro. i think people are seeking electro with more intensity. also, i like to add synthpop seriously needs a facelift..
great idea and concept that can last forever, but it seriously needs more modern lyrics based on the current time and today's rhythm section.

mm i suppose i'll pull my half dead body up to reply to this one... Lately it has been mainly BlutEngel, Hocico, Rhea's Obsession, and Funker Vogt, Occasionally with a spice of And One, Convenant, Wolfsheim, Arzt+Pfusch and Apocalyptica... vwee... One of these days Blutengel is going to wear out on me.. I don't know when that'll happen though.. Maybe it'll be when my cds stop working from over usage....
