    Angry Electronica in Shadows

    Hi Everyone,

I'm doing what I consider my civic duty at this point.

I will spare the details in this public forum, however, I do want to put the following out there:

If you have been approached by Shadowplay US (now 14:59 Records) to be on a compilation CD of any sort you may be interested in reading about my personal perspective and experience. Emphasis on individual experience, however, you may draw whatever conclusions from the information I give you...

If this is the case email me via EGN offline and I will share my experiences with you in private.

This isn't an attempt at slander.. this is simply sharing a consumer experience.

Comsumer?? It sounds like you're more speaking from a artist's perspective.. like something went sour between you and the label while trying to work out including a track of yours on a compilation of thiers...

Yes, consumer was probably the incorrect term... my relationship to the compilation was that I paid money to be on a compilation (as in bought myself a slot on it... how else do you think I end up on compilations? everyone has to pay...r-r-r-r-right?

anyways... it's an experience that may be indicative of how this particular label does business and I'm simply offering the story to anyone who feels it may be of use to them.

that's about all i'm going to say publically.. but you are correct, consumer is probably a misleading word.

As Shadowplay Electronica was also involved in the compilation called "Electronica in Shadows" I can give you a short version of what happened. We at Shadowplay Electronica mastered the CD, did the artwork and co-financed the CD. We sent everything to Sean at 14:59 Records (at the time Shadowplay Production US) that should press the CD.

5 artists from Scandinavia payed to us and we forwarded their 5*$80 and in addition $450 to Sean. Artists from UK and USA payed directly to Sean. The whole budget for the compilation was at around $1700. The main part of the money was for pressing 1000 copies (silver-pressed) of the compilation and a few hundred dollars was for transporting CDs to the artists and to us at Shadowplay Electronica. Distribution in Scandinavia had been assured.

Sadly Sean never sent any of us the CDs and now we are forced to draw the conclusion that we were all ripped off. We at Shadowplay Electronica took as much responsibility towards the artist that we could afford and offered a refund to the artist paying directly to us. This ment that we took a $850 loss.

So please Sean, clear up this mess and offer a refund to Dave and everyone that has paied to you. That's the only decent thing you could do. The artists paying to you absolutely do not deserve to be ripped off.

well please email him Martin ! As your openly saying sean has ripped you off ,speak to the man himself he has a phoneline ! This is not a forum for buisness transactions . I don't honestly believe he has ripped anyone off I think its probaly a delay in posting them but if you email him rather than use a public message board which he does not use hardly, you might get an answer.

email him at info@1459records.com and you will get an honest answer!

I've seen to many people jump the gun before bothering speak to the individual on this forum (including myself lol) and I do think sean will get those CDs to people and one more point the time it takes to post to and from the USA takes me nearly 2 months due to the -terroism checks and regualtions put in place! That could be one factor !

    Hello Mr. Kirlian

I appreciate your optimism but in this matter you do not have the facts. Every possible way has been explored.

I'm forced to agree with Kirlian ... this isn't the place to air out business disagreements. I believe Sean is honestly trying to do the best for our scene and its artists ... otherwise, I wouldn't be an artist on 14:59, obviously. If you e-mail Sean, you'll probably get a better response out of him than by attacking him publically here.

Not trying to cause any problems ... just saying things as I see them. Everyone of us will get our CD's.

    Synthpopalooza,

His lack of response to months of private emails led up to the reason why I started this thread.

I have plenty more I could say but I wont, what I share in the private emails says everything I want to say.

I will be forwarding that information, however, to every business owner that touches this scene (that I am aware of). Again, to allow THEM to reach their own conclusions.

    Dear Dave

With that intent you also destroy the Artists connected to Sean!
surely you don't want to do that Dave or do YOU? Fine the CD's are late considering sean works his butt off to put money into a small label nearly "7" days a week! I think I could handle the CD's being late but isnt that also on Martins behalf when the labels split away from each other???

If that is the case I will be contacting a few bands which you seem to obviously care less about with your comment and Again, to allow THEM to reach their own conclusions of your Intentions!

I will not discuss this matter over the web but email me
kirlian_blue@hotmail.com if you want to know the truth !

    p.s

    HAVE A NICE DAY!

I must agree here with my friend JeffInterVox...I would advise treading carefully in a public forum, if only to avoid the appearance of slander...believe me, I know I post perhaps the strangest of all topics, but, perhaps dirty laundry is best kept in the hamper?

pooh! Where's my post? well, in a nutshell, here it is again:

    1. use standard businesss practices, by not doing so makes everyone look bad.
    2. the analogy: don't yell about rotten bananas in the produce isle

    kindest regards,

I just have to make a correction. There were always two wannabe labels. Therefore we never split. I have done everyting in my powers to get the CD out. I made one misstake. I co-operated with Sean.

And concerning blaming Dave for splitting up 14:59. He's only the messenger. There is only one person to blame here.

This statement (and jups) is very true and I'm sorry I led this message down a path that allowed the introduction of slander at all. I had the benefit of having a lawyer review what I've said before I said.... Martin, you're in Sweden, you're safe, but I'd keep emotions out of it.

Here, again, is what I have:

I have information on my experience with 14:59 Records (then called Shadowplay-US).

That information includes my **subjective** account of what happened as well as some emails that were exchanged during the past few months.

Recently, as a response to this email, I have found others who have had similar experiences so it's not like I am alone.

I will forward this only on request and it's not out of malice... Just being what I consider a good "netizen" (cliche term).
