    Default Mellow

    Brian,

Interesting that you chose mostly mellow selections. Is it still relatively slow; did you pick up the pace on any of the songs?

And when is there going to be a Depeche Mode presents Color Theory?

I have to say, doing "Here is the House" was an excellent choice and has prompted me to pursue listening for it! That is my favorite DM song! Best of luck!

Default Actually, not so much mellow

Thanks for the vote of confidence!

Vertitron, most of the tracks have received a tempo boost. "I Want You Now" is very aggressive and uptempo. "Sister of Night" and "Leave in Silence" are club tracks. "But Not Tonight" is fast, like the original. The only real ballad is "It Doesn't Matter". There's a lot of variety in the tempo and mood of the tracks, and I think they flow together well without ever dragging. I'm consciously trying to create a tribute album that flows like an ALBUM, rather than a bunch of tracks thrown together. The two instrumental interludes (not mentioned in the tracklist) will help tie things together as well.

No sound clips on colortheory.com yet - sorry! When I finish the last two tracks, I'm going to be going through all the mixes again and tweaking, so in that sense, none of them are finished yet. I hope to have www.dmtribute.com up and running soon after I finish the CD, with sound clips and information on the studio and the creative process. I don't want to tarnish that all-important first impression with rough mixes.
    Brian.

Keep in mind that these are just rough mixes, and too dry for the most part. I reserved the right to provide new sound clips when the mixes are actually finished. Now I wish I'd provided "But Not Tonight" because I just finished that one and am very happy with it. Ah well!

Brian: I am sure this album is going to rock ...

I wonder, however, if people are now going to mistake "Ponytail Girl" as your remake of the Depeche Mode song off of the bootleg Exciter CD.

Just wondering, but what kind of a booklet will there be with the cd? Extensive liner notes, one sheet... what is planned?

Wow, talk about the lemons to lemonade philosophy! When we had two of our songs make the rounds of Napster and bootlegs as DM we did everything we could to distance ourselves from the whole thing. Let's face it DM fans are really obsessive people and we got thousands of emails, you know the "How dare you.." kind, even though we had nothing to do with the songs being put up as DM. I remember emailing Brian about it when the bootlegs started coming out and he seemed to like the whole thing. I guess it's all a matter of what you believe is artistic integrity. I hate the comparisons personally, because I think they diminish my own personal artistic vision, but to each his own. With that said, we just recently did a DM cover for a British tribute album, so paint me with the hypocrite brush.
