Question Jupiter's Weekly Question: What is Something Shocking or Unexpected About You?

Well, we all have skeletons--most of us like to keep them concealed. But I put it to you, my electro-gang--tell us something about yourself that no one would believe!

I'll start. In the early 1980s, this mild mannered academic was in a precursor to the ######## punk band Rancid. Attending high school with Tim Armstrong and Matt Freeman, we were in a band called the Noise (think the Specials meet the Circle Jerks). After two years in, I told them that we hadn't a chance in hell of getting out of the clubs and I was going to university.

Really smart, huh? But at least I have you guys... (sniff).

I'm a serial killer in my spare time. Oh.......uh.......wait......that was the wrong one. Sorry. I shouldn't even be joking about that.

Actually there are a couple of real things.

    1) I used to be a college mascot. I don't know if that's shocking. Sure was fun being around all those cheerleaders though. In a way....

    2) I grew up being one the Jehovah's Witnesses. After that I became Mormon (LDS) and then Methodist. Right now, I'm not really affiliated with any organized religion. Believe me, I have many stories I could tell about my religious adventures.

Those things are probably not earth-shattering. Just different.

I'm into New Age spirituality. Considering my line of work I have to keep it quiet all the time. Also I know more people online than I do IRL.

i once nearly killed a biker at a motorcyle gangs biker wedding with my bare hands.
he was hassling the guests there pushing them around threatening them.
    making racist and homophobic comments.
i had a lot to drink over 30 brown pops.
i asked him politely to stop and he started in on me.
i tried to avoid him as did everyone else.
he then decided to kiss me and put his tounge into my mouth.
    that was enough.
what followed was an extreme beating that included me driving his head through walls and throwing him downstairs stomping on his body that grew increasingly lifeless as the night went on.
i never drank after that night .
i felt real bad that i had nearly killed another person.
i dont know why i stopped beating this guy it must have to do with the omminoius voice in my head that said let him go.
after it was over i was worried that some of the guys from the wedding were going to start something but instead the leather clad bikers thanked me for teaching the guy a lesson that they had all wanted to teach them for along time.
thats a story i dont tell very often as people usualy fear me based on my size anyways.

Ok, I guess this is as good an opportunity as any to mention it. I'm gay.

I know many are probably thinking 'so what?'. Many on here are very open minded and that's one of the things I love about EGN but i'm 34 and till this day it's something that I feel uncomfortable telling people. My family and close friends know but people at work do not. It's really hard on me sometimes. People at work are always talking about their significant others and families. I don't. I just listen. I've become a great listener. I'm in relationship with the best guy in the world for 5 years now but I can't share my life and experiences with co-workers. Most people assume I'm married (to a girl) cause I where a wedding band. When I started this job, about 1 year ago, I had decided I was going to be honest from the start (not like in my last job). Well, I was waiting for the subject to come up when all of a sudden my boss asked me what my wife does for a living in front of about 3 coworkers. As they all looked on waiting for a response, the words "she's a teacher" blurbed at of my mouth. I could of kicked myself. I had fallen into the same predicament as in my old job.

The funny thing about it, is that even on EGN, I never really mentioned it. For one thing, I dont think it's necessary to throw it in everyone's face all the time, but mainly cause I didnt want certain friends i've made on here to think of me differently. I'm by no means a stereotypical gay male. Most people are shocked when I tell them. I don't do the bars and clubs, most of my friends are straight, I don't attend the parades. etc. (not that there's anything wrong with any of these things, it's just not me.)

I guess that's it. Geez, thanks a lot Jup. You and your weekly questions!

P.S. I still want to track down Tal.

When I was in middle school my little group and I initiated a peaceful protest of the school uniform in the quad. About 250-300 students were in the quad and most of the school (a lot) were on the sidelines just watching and supporting. It didn't get ugly.

I spent an entire summer doing an extraordinary amount of drugs. My friends and I did ecstasy just about every weekend. We started with 2 pills and then began averaging 5 pills when we partied. We used to get our pills at all the raves that summer. We'd buy our tickets, go in, and look for the dealers. It was very easy. We started getting very good at it. Well one night we got ahold of about 40 pills. We had a few people over at our house as was customary, our basement was converted into our very own industrial rave. I took 8 pills over the course of the night. I was absolutely f'ing fried. Went to get coffee that morning and I swear I looked like a crack addict. Well, later that summer we again got our hands on a large amount of ecstasy. Over the course of 2 to 3 days I took around 20 pills. People generally take 1 or 2 when they roll. I think these were weak, but they were mdma. It's possible that I could have died, I'm sure. By the end of it all I was having some serious panic attacks. Our use tapered off slowly over the next couple years. Now it's been about a year since I've done any drug besides having a few beers. I'm very happy I'm not doing that anymore, even though I have cravings now and then.

Hmmm... "shocking" stuff about me... well, no huge secrets about me to anyone on here so ... and away it goes:

    1. I spent most of my early 20s stoned.

    2. I have to take medication daily to manage a serious anxiety disorder known as "Panic Disorder". Before medication it got so bad that I stopped an airplane after it had pulled away from the gate because I thought I was having a heart attack.

    3. In late Jr. High and High school I was a very active computer hacker and phone phreak. I broke a lot of laws as well as contributed my talents to a lot of "politically charged" hacking. I outgrew it towards the end of college and before suffering any serious consequences. Ironically, later in life I have developed quite a reputation as being rather knowledgable in computer security. Truth is, it was always for the fun of it for me... or to be part of something... And I wont discuss it privately or publically any further than that... just assume I was bad... but I learned a lot and to my knowledge nothing I did hurt anybody significantly... I helped embarrass a couple really shifty local politicians.

    4. The first two females I was intimate with came out of the closet shortly after high school. With each other. They didn't last as a couple.

    5. I'm not gay. My personality "in person" leads many people to believe I am gay. I'm not particularly feminine... it's just a vibe I give off.... I don't mind it however in college it caused a few embarrassing situations to happen while I was hanging out with new male friends... usually when I discovered they thought we were on a date together and were trying to get some. I tried kissing one of them for a little while... didn't dig it at all... actually, it totally repulsed me and the fact it was guy that I was kissing was exdactly what was repulsing me... either way I love gay people, I'm comfortable around gay people, I would even go as far as to say at times that I prefer their company over straight people.

    BUT ~ I like women. A LOT.

    A LOT.

I don't just prefer them. They are what I want.

Well, wanted... I mean the only way I'm getting a new woman is if I knock off my wife and I'd miss her terribly.

AND -- Megan is screaming bloody murder... good night!
