Goodbye July, the side-project of Anything Box's Paul R, has just released the debut album "Basura Blanca". Here's a tracklist:

Tracklist for "Basura Blanca"
Baby, U da Bomb
Boogie Shoes
Tattooed Soul
Drown Me In Your Wake
Salvation
The Only Things Worth Opening
Asleep On Your Soft Word
I Love You, My Whore
Happy
Homo
Sober

I don't know.. some of these tracks were really awesome when I heard them on mp3.com. I wish that the track he did with Dania on backing vocals was on here.

My favorite is "The Only Thing Worth Opening", but there's a lot of good stuff on there. It's fun to read Paul's liner notes and see how his personality shines through the entire project.

Thanks!!!

AFAIK, and according to Paul's posts in the Anything Box Forum, A Different Drum is the only place carrying it at the moment.

Brian, it sounds like you already have a copy.. can you fill us in? Is "Happy" the same as the song "Happy Again" that was on mp3.com that had Dania on backing vox?

I can't believe it finally came out. Asleep on your soft word was/is a beautiful song.

Happy is not Happy Again.
Many of you may have already heard Happy when it was on mp3.com. Happy is known to some as "The Shopping Mall Song." It is the humorous song with verses about Macy's, Nordstrom, and Clothestime. "It doesn't matter if seems, burst you're friggin' spleen, you'll be happy."

Officially, it's a song about fashion and the fashion industry. However, after the initial Goodbye July show in Whittier, CA in '98 (has it been that long?), Paul played an unexpected extended mix of the song. It was like the energizer bunny version. Paul was out of verses, but the track kept going . . . and going . . . and going. A few wekks later at an Anything Box show, a group of us who had attended the GJ show were offering our comments, and it was basically said, "Those songs were great, especially that shopping mall song with all the stores." Thusly, came the nickname.

Anyway, I've had the fortune of getting to hear a lot of Paul's songs over the years, and I'm really happy to hear that Basura Blanca finally has made it out--it's taken quite some time. Paul has a knack of combining some great tunes with either laugh-along lyrics or really touching, sensitive ones. "The only things . . ." really grabs you and effects your own feelings.

Definitely check out the album, and props go out to Brian and the great mastering job.

By the way . . . www.goodbyejuly.com should be up and running in August.
My old www.flash.net/~baldeaux Goodbye July fansite is still out there and it looks like it needs some major updating now.

nobody likes buying a band member's solo album and being not liking the music (not naming any names). Although I HIGHLY encourage all cd sales from Todd at www.adifferentdrum.com , the CD is available to listen to at CD Baby. Listen there, then support the scene and the band at ADD. Here is a link:

and to buy at ADD
