Has anyone heard Mend's effort? I have to tell you I really didn't like it first time round. I was like "what are they trying to be Mesh or somthing"? Then I listened again, and actually found some pretty decent tracks on it. Overall though it was either Hit or Miss w/ me. Some tracks the vocals and lyrics are soooo bad that I couldn't listen to them and other tracks were quite the opposite, catchy and melodic. Hmmm......

I do in a large part agree with you, some of the tracks are great while other are uther uninteresting. But I don`t think that they sound exactly like Mesh. That they are inspired by Mesh are beyond denial, but I think that The Nine actually sounds more like Mesh than Mend do. I hovewer think that the production on the Mend album leave som to be desired. The production somehow makes all the songs, including the uptemop ones, appear rather mellow and monotonous. If they could have improved the production, they would be lifted quite a few notches in my book. The would have benefitted strongly from the kind of "sound makeover" that some of the bands that have signed to ADD have gotten.
You mentioned that they`re album is very uneven. I don`t think that this is just a bad thing. Many synthpopbands from the US release albums that are rock solid all over, but somehow lacks those few songs with "hit potensial". While Mend seem to lack the ability to write albums where every song i good, they also seem to be better at writing songs that are capable of being released as singles, and that is an ability to many otherwise good synthpopbands are sadly lacking.

Well Put! I agree with you totally. There is something about that album that makes me want to listen again and again. I don't really know why either. If they would have improved some of the vocal hooks on some of the tracks, It really would be a great album.

One of the members of Mend is a former member of a romantic/new wave group called Lovesick.
If you like the Cure to almost a Faith Assembly sound you should check them out.
