I know this is not the right forum for this, so please accept my apologies if you feel this is not appropriate, but I was so shocked by a news story I found on the BBC website today that I can’t sleep for thinking about it. A little 5 year old girl was killed today at the Rhine Army Summer Show in Germany after a helium balloon was swept away by a sudden gust of wind and she ended up tangled in the mooring rope. The balloon was recovered 70 kilometres away but there has been no sign of the poor girl’s body. This poor girl was the daughter of British Service personnel, who must be absolutely traumatised by this whole experience. All I can think about is the absolute terror that this poor girl must have felt in her final time on this earth, I hope she is at peace now.

Wherever you are today, please spare a thought for this poor girl and her family.

Being the father of three little girls myself, this type of story always hits home. You never know when something is going to happen. You just always have to pray that it doesnt. My thoughts go out to the family.

I'd hate to even begin to imagine what it would be like losing your child...My heart goes out to her family, and a somber prayer to her so that she may be at peace :)

Accidents like this one are what every parent worries about the most. Here in Arizona we have many children who drown in swimming pools every year. Kids always seem to find a way to be near the things that are the most fascinating to them. Often times that curiosity can put them in harms way. Can't stress enough about the importance of keeping an eye on children no matter what. Even so, accidents like the one with the balloon are impossible to prevent or predict. Hopefully, she didn't suffer for long. What a tragedy. :(
