salute!

i´m working with cubase vst 5.1 on pc and do some very complex songs with sfx and vst plug in synths, vocal arrangements, digi mixing...everything.

i´m realy happy with my cubase and wavelab 4.0

is there anyone who has also worked with cubase vst and now works with cubase sx?
i´ve heard that there are some new feature that could be confusing the old cubase vst users.

how was it to change the sequenzer?
would be very interesting.

best regards
martin

Hi there :

I made "the change" earlier this year.

To be honest, its like changing to a completely different sequncer like logic or sonar. It made me scatch my head for about a fortnight, but i think the ease of transition is down to what sections of the program you use.

If you use a lot of outboard, or require to sync to video, then SX still dosnt have the ease of workflow or facilities of 5.1

However, the UI in SX looks nicer, it has system link, and the audio engine sounds much better.

I still use both 5.1 and SX, depending on the content of the project. Because steinburg have been concentrating on Nuendo 2.0, SX is still not the comprehensive mature product 5.1 was.

thanks for your reply.
this is exactly what i´ve heard from several sides... i will wait some time before changing to sx.
as i said i´m very happy with vst 5.1...great piece of software.

I"ve heard reports that the Mac version (which doesn't interest you, but may be of interest to others) is buggy as hell.

Which wouldn't surprise me. Every version of Cubase I've ever used on any platform has crashed or frozen at odd and annoying times.

(I'm switching over to Logic as soon as NI finishes porting their software to OS X).

i only can repeat that i´m very very happy with my pc and it´s vst power with cubase vst. you have to do a lot to kill this system.

mac´s look nice but they can´t mess with the vst power of a perfect configured windows xp system.
since win xp you can work with pc´s very good.

logic is a cool sequenzer but i hate the decision to stop the pc versions.

in the end it´s creativity that counts not the system!

the old story...:)

I never really got into Cubase VST, so I can't comment much on the differences between them. However, I can say that on Windows 2000 Pro, Cubase SX is rock solid. I never have problems with it. It's very intuitive, has a lot of nice features (though there are a few I'm hoping for in 2.0), and is the most stable audio program I've ever worked with.

If the Mac version is buggy as hell, then Steinberg need to get on it and fix it. Usually the Mac software is the stable stuff while the PC versions are throwing fits left and right :)

It used to be that way. STeinberg used to develop the mac version first then port it to win. They've stopped doing that. Now SX for OS X is just a buggy port of the win version.

Logic, even logic 5.5 on 9.2. is rock-frigging-SOLID. You never hear about Logic users switching over to Cubase, only the other way around. 6 has a few bugs, in things like TDM support, but frankly that doesn't bug me too much.

I develop for XP all day - there's no freaking way I'd try and use it for audio. :) Although in the end, frankly all I'm worried about is a good audio I/O system. Everything else is just icing. Mac, PC, Linux, BeOS - whatever. Can I record digital audio cleanly? Okay then.

Actually, not to burst your bubble there Null, but I managed to get a friend of mine to move from Logic 5.5 to Cubase SX. He had worked with Logic and released lots of stuff, but hated 6.0 and moved over. I won't reveal his identity though (he does hang around on here), I think he's still in the twelve step :)

So yeah, now you HAVE heard of it. If only once, hehe.
