Well, following on from the recent discussion on file swapping/downloading, here's another one for discussion.

This article talks about the increasing amount of sites that publish lyrics and the publishing industries increasing attempts to shut them down.
Lyric publishing on fan sites, good or bad thing? Discuss.

Well, they are legally within their rights, but again they should concentrate on legislation WORTH putting on the books and putting enforcement behind. This is just kind of silly and petty.
Posting LYRICS?? Hmmm... for pop music if a fan takes the time to actually read the lyric of a song there's a probablity that the musician may make an important connection...
My guess: Most acts will simply ensure that accross-board-perission exists for reproducing lyrics. That's just good PR.

I would agree. I really think that the publishing houses are just trying to jump on the file swapping band wagon, although they don't have as much of a case as the record companies. I can't think of any way that these sites will ever make any money out of publishing the lyrics that are generally available in CD booklets the world over. Maybe it's to do with internet advertising issues...
