Hearing Syrian's fantastic cover of Iron Maiden's "Wasted Years" tickled something in the back of my brain about other synthpop bands that have covered "metal" songs. I know there are at least a couple others, but I couldn't think of them off the top of my head. Anyone have any examples? Might make a good "theme show" for SlothRadio. :)

Well, Apoptygma Berzerk have covered Nothing Else Matters and Fade To Black by Metallica. Die Krupps has also of course done a whole minialbum of Metallica covers, but I wouldn't label Die Krupps as synthpop.

Don't necissarily know how metal you consider Ozzy, but New Clear Sky did a cover of Paranoid.

Shows what I know....I didn't even realize Paranoid was a cover.

Not sure if Aztec Camera is really considered synthpop, but they did a cover of Van Halen's "Jump". In fact, now that I think of it, I'm not sure if Van Halen is really considered "metal" either. Oh well.

well, I'm always a little fuzzy in my genre distinctions.... The "Jump" cover is very cool; I've played it quite a few times on my station.

Red Flag covered "The Immigrant Song" by Led Zepplin.

Check out the Cleopatra records catalog, they have tribute discss for Metallica, AC DC and others.

Hmm.......I've never heard any synthpop covers of metal tunes.

But I find the idea so intriguing......I suddenly want to make one. ;) Actually, I've thought in the past of doing a cover of "King Nothing", that's probably my favorite Metallica song (from a list that I can count on one hand).

I'm familiar with the Die Krupps album, but you're right, they're more.....well at the time they were called "dance industrial" and now I think the term is "EBM".

While not considered "metal" but classic rock, Scissor Sisters do a sweeeeeeetass Electroclash version of Pink Floyd's Comfortably Numb...and before you all poo poo Electroclash, you should really give it a listen :p

LOL...a little self promotion here, but currently (actually, I put it away a few months ago, guess I should finish it, huh?) I was working on a cover of Kiss's "God of Thunder". It is sort of an Industrial version.

Just listened to that Scissor Sisters track. It's absolutely hideous. :-P

Oh well...one person's "hideous" is another person's pleasure...a point that is proven constantly on this site, i don't know what some of you people are thinking with your musical choices, but hey, there's something for everyone :p

But at least you gave it a shot...

what? its such a classic Black Sabbath / Ozzy song - *blink* ok

(and i am so happy they got signed to a major :) yay for them)

you probably didn't like it cos it's not synthpop - they don't do that traditional "default setting / cookie cutter / pre-packaged" approach to music the way that 90% of these synthpop bands do. Thats the great thing about electro - they have a sense of humor, style and they take chances! :)

When I went to the last synthcon, some band was trying to do "Breaking the Law" by Judas Preist - they weren't bad ass enough to pull it off tho - i didn't care for it :( sorry whoever you were...

OK... now that's just sick... I just had this image of Vince Clarke on stage with Rob Halford... I may be disturbed by that for a while...

Sense of humour = good.. look at the art community in general.. the strongest voices in any media have the ability to use humor as a device.

I'm listening to Scissor Sister's cover of Comfortably Numb right now..

I'm cracking up... It sounds like an Electro Remix of the Pointer Sisters doing Pink Floyd cover :) Gotta give them props for originality.

Aw, c'mon, ¤¤¤¤¤slap 'em just a leetle bit harder. I know you have it in you.

I've listened to a little bit of Electroclash, but not much. Just a couple of songs by Fischerspooner and Ladytron, and I didn't like 'em. Had nothing to do with the sound, I like the sound. But two lines of lyrics don't make a song, and I guess I'm just more song-oriented.

There is a possibility that they just didn't like the song.

I dig the electroclash-only if it's got some imagination and doesn't repeat the same fuucckin lyric over and over, I agree Vesel. Sometimes it works-mostly it doesn't. But give more electroclash a chance. Listen to some Felix Da Housecat, Miss Kitten, Mount sims-there's some okay stuff out there. Screw labels, most genre's have some good tunes in them somewhere, if you are truly an afficianado of music.

oh, no synth pop hard rock songs here-sorry dudes

I was working on a cover of Def Leppards "Photograph" ... shelved it for awhile ... might break it out again at some point.

All you guys doing KISS covers need to finish them up and send them my way!..

Myself I went in a different direction altogether...I covered "Ring Of Fire" by Johnny ******Cash!....

Played it live a week or so ago and people went nuts...

Headed off to Harry Fox Agency and got me a limited mechanical license to release it....now I just need to um....like release it...
