Hey there guys and gals...I need your help on something...Can you name all the bands with the heavy Information Society sound influenced in their music for me???
I'm trying to build up my collection of the sound-alikes from Insoc and I've gotten quite a few, but you know how it goes, I'm probably missing an integral band somwhere...Any help is much appreciated :D
Thanks!!!

I would love to help you but one of the reasons why I like InSoc so much is because they were InSoc and there are none that really do what they did. Even if someone did, it never sounded quite as good or honest. The only band I have ever heard that hit that InSoc nerve in my head has been Provision. Go figure.

No you know what, you're absolutely right...And I feel the same way about Provision... :)

Provision does it a bit. I always thought U-N-I sounded a bit more InSoc though. Maybe I'm crazy.

If you like InSoc, try Stochastic Theory (www.stochastictheory.com). The vocals are reminiscent of Kurt H.

TKA until release an unreleased InSoc song on his second album.
I like TKA a lot, and I'm really mad about InSoc, this band change my life. :)
I also can't asy a band really like InSoc, but I can name 100 that try to do it, and some are very nice. :)
Index, Voice In Fashion, T42, TKA, Kon Kan, Secret Society are somes. :)
But I already name these bands to you Dan many times! hehehe :)

I have to Agree with Seraphin that No One does it Like Insoc.
I think the Closest Anyone ever came was T42.
I remember when T42's "Desire" Hit on the Radio, Everyone I Knew thought it was the New INSOC.
Vocal Wise and Stile Wise, Kurt Harland's Biggest Influence Must Have Been Ton Bailey of the Thompson Twins.
Check out any of Their Album's, and Video's for Reference.
There was a Band that My Old Band "U-N-I" played with a long Time ago from Houston called "NuCre8tion".
They were Christian Synthpop, but sounded a lot like INSOC, and even did a Cover of Peace & Love, Inc.
I saw the LEad singer when we played with Anything Box last Year. I don't think he was doing Music Anymore though.
It's too bad Really.

The first record from Insoc really had that party freestyle disco biscuit sound but I loved it for what it was... sound reminisent of Stevie B(for ex: "spring luv"sounds like RUnning), George Lamond(for ex: Bad Of the heart), TKA(for ex "louder than love")
The second record was more funkier blending the styles of some James Brown samples "Knife and a Fork" for ex, it also has maybe two freestyle songs in there with "Think" and "Come with me." Yeahh definetely more cyber funkier techno sounding with songs like "now that I have you( Nitzer Ebb samples there), and Seek 200...I think it's more DEE LITE and James Brown influenced along with Techno house. Sheeshh I havent listened to this record in 10 years, it's time to pop this record in....
The third record is definetely Techno infl, my first impression of it was definetely influened by 808 State and the Techno movement of the early ninetees..
I was just at CD.now and I was checking out Johnny O, Stevie B, Cover Girls, Lil Suzy, Tiana, TKA, and George Lamond.... The only difference between the bands I listened to and Insoc are the song writing, yeahh definetely Insoc did the freestyle sounds but the song writing skills was much muchmuch better, unlike the goat cheese song writing skills from bands like Stevie and George Lamond... Every time I hear bands like Stevie, I smell hairspray...
Damn too much coffee for moi...

As a huge frigging Insoc fan I can't really think of anyone else that does quite what they did, or does quite what they do. I got my hands on the south american release of DBA and it's awesome. I't all the darness of the Cleopatra release without all the dialog and endless samples - plus remixes.
And their Debut album really nailed it for me as well.. I've always loved hearing what they do - redefining thier own sound and always improving. I am still shy a couple songs from comps and such...
At any rate... While maybe some bands "borrow influence" here and there, I've not come across a 'copy'.

There's a reason T42 sounded so much like InSoc. Paul Robb worked with them. At least I think he did. He did, right?

Paul Robb did produce the album alongside Frad Maher, who produced Insoc's first album...
And I'm not looking for clones, or copycats, just bands that sound-alike...Not try and actually be them...
T42
Rhythmus
etc. etc...Just bands with that heavy disco bisquit sound that Mark was pointing out :D

Paul Rob did help Produce the T42 Album "intruder" with Fred Maher, but In my opinion it is not what made them sound like Insoc.
As far as the Sounds on the Album, T42 was a lot More Digital. Using Horn Sounds like DM did in the Mid 80's, and other Less Analog Sounds than Insoc.
But Will Loconto's Voice was Very Close in Range and Style to What Kurt Harland's was on the First Insoc Album.
It's not Suprising that Kurt Eventually Asked Will to Join Insoc on Synths and Back Up Vocals after Paul and Jim Left the Band.
He was the Perfect Canidate.

Paul Robb produced the T42 album with Fred Maher. But T42 on hsi first tape already have that sound. Probally they are huge InSoc fans like us. :)
But Will not join InSoc only after Paul & Jim left the band, he join in 1992. :)

Technically You Guys are Wrong. But You are also right, In a Sence.
I own Video's from Brazil, along with some other bootlegs during the Peace & Love Inc. Tours.
I was also in the Control Alt Delete Netwerk at the Time with My Former Band U-N-I and Know the History of Insoc Very well.
At this Time Insoc was Kurt, Paul, and Jim.
Will Loconto and Ed Wozniak were not official Insoc Members.
They were only used as Touring Support, because Insoc wanted so many Parts Played Live during those Shows.
Paul and Jim Officially Quit at what was suppossed to be the Last Insoc Show Ever in 1992 at Six Flags Magic Mountain in Valencia, CA. I have Many Pictures from that Show.
After Paul and Jim Left, Kurt Purchased the Name "Insoc" from Paul and Jim.
Kurt then Formed the New Line Up with -
Will Loconto on Vocals, Synths, and Drum Pads.
Ed Wozniak on Drum Pads Full Time, as the Main Drummer.
And Kris Larson (Kurt's Younger Brother) on Drum Pads.
This was when All 3 of these Guys were Announced as Offical Members in the C-A-D Newsletters.
I also have Video's from the Tours that followed with this Line Up.
It's too bad that an Insoc Album was never Released with this Line Up.
But We all Know who Insoc is Anywayz.

I agree that InSoc is a bit too original to compare to anyone on a clone music level. T42 was obviously a different group to those hardcore fans that were not just casual radio listeners. They were greatly influenced by InSoc, but definetly different. Unlike Font & Centre which almost did Erasure's sound better than Erasure did! Did you guys ever catch how scarily identical to Erasure that group sounded!! WOW! Ultimately, their lack of uniqueness caused a backlash and their eventual downfall. Too bad.

You are right, after Amanda leave the band, the band are always Kurt, Paul & Jim, all others are only to play alive.
Paul and Jim Officially Quit at what was suppossed to be the Last Insoc Show Ever in 1992 at Six Flags Magic Mountain in Valencia, CA. I have Many Pictures from that Show.
Now you are wrong, in 1992 they released P&L album, and the Brazilian tour started in 1993 when they played with the same formation that on US tour.

Sure, but the band now are only Kurt as a member,

InSoc left a big hole in the electronic music without doing something new, we will miss them forever.
I saw that you are a member of Provision, I bought your CD in the dark, without listen any song, only because all are tolding me that have many influence by InSoc, so must be at least good. :)
So is coming to Rio, I hope to receive soon. :)
And please, let's trade some videos! I have the biggest InSoc collection that you gonna find in the world to offer you in trade! :)
Please contact me in the profile email. :)
Cheers from Rio,

Yeah, for Funny a DJ when released "tell me, tell me" said "here the new InSoc's song! Enjoy!", only after he assume that was a joke, and wasn't a InSoc song.
I confess that I believed that was InSoc playing, very similar voice, arrangemments and samples. :)

Exist many Erasure clones out there, doing something really equal to erasure, or the old erasure days.
Blue October have also the same vocals! incredible! :)

What about Sally Berg - in the band line up history? They toured with her on the Club MTV tour - and included her on the 8 by 10 B/W glossy. - Funny thing - I caught the tour of them with Cause and Effect Later - and presented the old Glossy for autographs - and Kurt X'd out Sallys eyes and mouth!!
Kurts words on success in the music industry to me:
1. Get a product - play out if you want, but make a product.
2. Always write music
3. Be careful who you play with, they are your brothers and sisters and earn a percentage of what you do.
and lastly ... [the one I ignore]
4. Don't do it.
Maybe Kurt was bitter by this time? - He was still performing with Paul and James when he said this...so maybe this comment is the result of tensions.

It's really funny to see some of the old Synthcon 01' photos...Back on the old site there were a couple of Kurt and Paul posing together and Kurt just had this look of loathing on his face...Almost like he hated even standing next to Paul and wondered why he had to be there...

This is weird but I remember that date, it was on April 10th 93. Cause and Effect was suppose to open but we saw The Movement instead.... It was like a dollar each concert so we ended going to both.... I do remember the apple and the drum stick...You know, they were playing live or half dat, half midi triggers, very cool..
BTW, the ride Viper rox almost made me threw up..
Note to self: dont eat Magic Mountain Nachos and ride Viper 5 minutes later..

I'd really be surprised if he had thoughts of distain as, from what I hear, they still are friends and that's the reason he was late to SynthCon that night. He was off picking up Paul from his Los Angeles home. Talk is also that he and Paul had recorded some things after the original InSoc broke up, now what I wouldn't give to hear some of that. Sadly, they couldn't find anyone all that interested in releasing it.
I'm still kicking myself for not realizing that Paul was there. Holy missed opportunities, Batman! I so wanted to try and get him to do a Think Tank show for us. Now wouldn't that have been something?
As for Kurt being bitter, well, yeah. Duh. Anyone who's been an InSoc fan long enough knows that he's a bitter, sarcastic, little man. But that's why we love him. *lol* Has he ever really done any interviews where he isn't sarcastic (or even paying attention). That interview with Down Town Julie Brown on Mtv anyone? You should have seen the parts of the SynthCon interview that didn't make it onto the DVD. *heh* Everyone missed the whole Periodical chart incident.

Yeah Breye , I know. :)
but don't forget about our trade man! :)
The Fight wasn't really with Paul, was with Jim, that is a close friend of Paul, and Paul protecting Jim also fight with Kurt.
I have in video Kurt doing bad faces to Jim in the stage, Kurt said a lot of bad things about Jim.
When they arrive in US the band were only Kurt, Paul and Jim quit and he alone done the rest of US shows.
The Cause & Effect show was in 92, they don't played because Sean died on the sound checking, do they cancelled all his opennings of InSoc shows that they will gonna do in this US tour.
BUt let's forget the fight, nice that Paul and Kurt aren't fighting anymore, so maybe we can have a new song on the next years if we still have any hope. :)
