The world was a much safer place when there was a perceived balance and everybody was afraid to even sneeze.

Just my humble opinion. I could be wrong.

Even when there was the Soviet Union we were still selling arms to all the other little countries so the ballance was only an illusion anyway. What needs to happen is for the US to stop playing Policeman, stop giving money away and focus on it's own set of problems.

If I were President (get down on your knees and pray), I would pull all our foreign aid, withdraw all our troops from every country over-sea's, take that money and build up a true defensive posture in this country (missile defense, true border protection, etc) and let every other country determine their own destiny. I guess this makes me an isolationist, but let's see how well the world would get on without US aid and without US foreign policy. Maybe they could do it better or maybe they would learn to truely appreciate what the US does for other parts of the world. Either way, enough is enough. NATO is a farce now and the UN is an even bigger joke.

Exactly, focus on its own problems like ppl eating toooo much of Mc Ribs from Mc Donalds and getting fat. Therefore they should start really pushing for ppl to eat more Subway sandwiches, damn it one of the guys from the commercial stated he lost 250 pounds mate... Thats like 3 ppl....

Oh geeze, I almost got afraid that someone was serious with this thread.

I really don´t know how much the US is involved around the world, but I can guess....And I would say that USA wouldn´t mind others business if it wouldn´t for their own good.
Of course they are after something, are US only doing it to look like saints? Being as political as I am, I´m on the USA´s side, which differs me from the left-winged here in Sweden.
But still, everything US do isn´t good...but do we dare to be without them?

I say let Simon Cowell run the world. He'll have it ship shape and won't hold back on anyone.

See I just don't agree with the national desire to go one way or another... either we're the policemen and just go blow ¤¤¤¤ up overseas or we get out of the kitchen...

We really cannot and should not do either.

We are as dependant on the countries we aid as they are on us.

The politics make it all look differently because it serves them.

Diplomacy is too much work and doesn't win elections.

Not being in control makes the job of President of the US >NOT< the worlds most "Powerful" position anymore (as if).

We're a country ran by corrupt dickheads with ego problems... but I wouldn't live anywhere else... I love this country. We are totally ¤¤¤¤ed right now but I love this place.

The grass is always greener on the other side.. but realize it gets that way because you always toss the dog ¤¤¤¤ over the fence and it fertilizes... once you jump the fence it stinks again.

The whole Iraq situation is a no win proposition. If we do nothing, I am convinced Saddam has everything Bush says he does, then he WILL proliferate it to terrorists and we will be attacked and screwed hardcore with WOMD. Now, if we attack him, then every nut job terrorist will attack us any way, possibly with WOMD. Plus every left wing European and and anti-American propagandists are going to have a field day trashing the US and talking ¤¤¤¤. Either proposition doesn't sit well with me. Would love for a 3rd solution to present itself, but I don't see one.

So everyone grab your ankles and get ready for the ride. It is going to be bumpy. Oh, the North Koreans have nuclear missiles that can reach Los Angeles. I feel much better now.

you'd almost think the US got itself into this situation in some ways through past actions. dabble here dabble there. eventually it bites you in the ass. if only there were no bullies in the schoolyard and people were happy with what they had.

world always has to cater to the lowest common denominator. there always seems to be at least one ¤¤¤¤¤¤¤ in power and what do you do then? if people weren't so naturally greedy i'd say we have a hope in hell of having some peace. it ain't so!

To beat a cliche to death, this is a chess match, and we must be thinking not of the next move, but many moves ahead. I am somewhat skeptical about the ability of North Korea to develop guidance systems sufficient to reach LA (although they probably have the payload). I think that the administration is well aware of the perils of a two-front conventional war...didn't work well for Germany in the 40s...

As far as my beliefs about Saddam and his weaponry, I am with Craig. He's used far worse on his own people and his neighbours in Iran...he won't attack the US directly, but use shadow networks to do his bidding (Al Qaeda, for example), much like Khadaffi attempted to do in the early 80s.

Just my two pence.

It's like I said before...Even though it's not the popular consensus around here, I think the US needs to bomb the hell out of Iraq and set an example of what not to do to us...That is, mess with the US, you suffer for it...

What Dave said is so true, we are a country run by ego-manic d***heads, maybe it's time they put that ego to some good use and flex some muscle against a threat to not only the US, but the world over if we let Saddam continue to rule...Move the civilians out, and turn that place into a freaking parking lot...

My 2and 1/2 cents :D
