So I was in San Diego recently, and much to my surprise I drove past a store called "The Crypt", featuring the exact same logo and font as on the Red Flag CD. I decided to investigate, and was quite surprised to find that it was a gay S&M store! They sold leather and bondage wear, sex toys, and various items of gay erotica.

I thought some of you would be interested to learn what kind of establishment they named their album after! I've never seen it mentioned anywhere, but please forgive me if this is a common bit of Red Flag trivia. Thoughts?

I thought the picture of them inside of Codebreaker looked a little 'interesting'.

I'm going to have to go back and relisten to some of their songs ;)

I wonder if it is actually from that store. Maybe they never went in but liked the logo. (Although I have no idea, maybe they do know what the store is).

It's very interesting though.

...i dunno. I was always thinking the guys are, well lets say not a 100% on girls (cause most of my fave bands are sexually free spirited). But I dunno. The only thing ist that Marc once answered a mail of mine (yeah swonders occur), sayin that they always name their cds on places they fancy in their surrounding.

But if u decide to go into a darker chapter - what else would be a better name for the album than THE CRYPT.

But I am SHURE they´ve been into the store. If u would name a record on something I am shure u WOULD visit the base or lets say "playce of birth".

If there is some homosexual aspect i am not wondering. Guys that are not straight on girls are the better musicians in my eyes. The perfect in-between and mixture of heart-warming-xx-style and cool and logic xy-style.

Maybe thats because I am such a bad musician. ;0) The bad girls made me be that. Hehehehe...

Anyway, if that store inspired RED FLAG for THE CRYPT i have to visit it. Its almost a holy place for me then.

I hope they will find some other inspiring places like that one. I did not like THE BITTER END location and if CODEBRAKER is a store as well, i definitely would not even look in its direction.

But THE CRYPT, what lovely place... ;0)

Hahaha, that´s funny to know.
Never thought about that logo, but I love the album.
Guess they got some inspiration from that little shop then....we maybe shouldn´t be too suprised if we get a BDSM-song in the future ;)

Tres Cool! The Crypt's special of the week.... leather studded socks so you can dance to Shadow Warrior...

Actually, I wonder if they bought their motorcycle gear that they wear on Codebreaker at the Crypt? Hmmmmmmmm. Interesting!

Seeing that I actually live in San Diego . . . and have asked Mark about it . . .

The Crypt is a store in San Diego which has two locations and has grown quite considerably from the old days. It is quite known and popular and caters toward the bondage scene. They sell clothes, toys videos. Never been inside, so can't say much else as to what they sell. The main store is in Hillcrest which is pretty much San Diego's area with the largest gay community. Though, I figure the store also has its share of fetish-types.

As for the album, the insignia and the title of the album is taken from the store. The theme of the album (the darkness and melencholy) sort of fit right in with the Crypt.

When the band played shows during that time . . . their dress was very crypt-line with lots of leather, fishnet shirts, studs, and of course the wings. I wouldn't be surprised if they purchased their outfits at the Crypt.

I asked Mark about it at a show and he also brought up the fact that they like to write material and include stuff that is associated with their experiences. So my thought is that the Crypt is associated to the store.

FYI . . . Mark is married
