So, I'm kinda broke these days, and I really wanted to get my hair highlighted without spending a fortune. I have a friend who went to beauty school, but she isn't working as a hairdresser. She knows how, though, and she offered to do it for me if I buy the supplies.
I came over the other day, but it turned out that I had bought the wrong type of lightener. I've had to live with this awful, orangey haircolor for the last couple days. Today was the next day she had time for me to come over so she could fix it.
So, I bought the correct products, so the highlights will be really white-blonde. And now, here I am in my friend's house. I've been waiting for 2 hours now, and she's not here. I think she forgot about me. Her roommate is here, so I'm just sorta hanging out.
We're all meeting up with some other friends for dinner later tonight, so if she doesn't get home soon there won't be time. I'm going to be stuck with my bad, orange dye job.
Just thought I'd share. As you were.

Last summer, I had my wife bleach my hair on the top (see avatar). It's not difficult. However, when she did it, she kept working it into the roots. If I had wanted a good job, that would have been necessary, but I actually wanted her to focus on the ends and not the roots. So I ended up with beautiful roots and an ugly yellow-orange where people could actually see the hair.
Enter problem. I'm a high school teacher. When summer was over, I had to either dye or cut. There had only been a fraction of an inch grown since the bleach so I had a very clean shave that has only recently needed to be cut again.
It was nice to play with my hair again. Unfortunately, I didn't get a chance to go out and show it off. Maybe this summer.

After hearing those stories, I think I'll just leave my hair the way it is. Sounds a bit risky to me. Can't afford to be any uglier than I already am. ;) And no, I'm not saying you guys are ugly in any way. Ah hell, you know what I mean. Some of us (like me) don't have the luxury of experimentation when it comes to our looks. Cheers!!!

I had deep blue streaks put into my hair about three months ago at a salon. It looked great against my black hair until the streaks turned green last month. My hair gets fried easily, so I'm afraid to have the color redone until it all grows out. Want to try doing it purple next. :)

My friend never did show up that day, so I did the unthinkable: I did my hair myself.
This is fairly simple if you're talking about an all-over, one-color dye job....but what I wanted was a color weave, which is much more complex. It requires patience, and an ability to see the back of your own head. (Hence the need to have someone do it for you.) I have neither patience, nor the ability to see the back of my head....but I did it anyway. Or rather, I did *something* to it.
And I have to admit, it looks surprisingly cool...better than any 'home-dye' job I've ever attempted in the past. But, it's not a shade that can possibly exist in nature. And I like that....but it's hard to maintain, plus hard to find a job, when your hair is this unnatural in color.
The majority of my hair is silvery-white blonde, but I randomly put in big chunks of medium brown here and there. So it's not blended, as it would be in a salon; but it's not just 'bleached,' either. Hard to describe.
When I finally heard from my friend (who had some lame excuse as to why she didn't show up OR call me that day), I told her I'm actually enjoying this interesting haircolor combo, so I'll hang with it for a couple weeks...and then, perhaps she might be willing to help me with a color weave to take away the 'chunks,' and blend everything together into a somewhat more natural look.
In my life, I've had my hair every color imagineable: white, black, various shades of red and pink, blue, purple, green, and various combinations of the above. My favorite of all is white....which is, mostly, what I currently have. But it does a number on your hair to keep it that light, plus it's a ¤¤¤¤¤ to maintain; and although these 'chunks' of brown do add a nice contrast, any white hair is going to show roots growing in. And it's not exactly going to look professional on job interviews.
Eventually, I'll keep the white highlights, but they'll be 'highlights' as opposed to all-over color.

Hey Sandy white is good even for some interviews. I am turning naturally white. Many, many white hairs started to grow among my brownish hair. I actually like them...I also have a blond birth mark in the back of my head that I always leave exposed. I work at court and nobody seems to mind the white spots..one judge even told me that it looked too good to be natural....
