View Full Version : "Solsbury Hill" On US Radio

I was listening to Bay Area radio station Mix 106, which is a rather MOR station that is only on the car's presets because my wife added it, and they did a now playing new music promo where they announced that they are now playing Erasure's "Solsbury Hill." Erasure on US commercial radio again, my whole view of the world is falling apart. I would love to hear if the Bay Area is alone in this, or if this a wave that is spreading across the nation.

What?!? US Radio??? Is this a prank? ;)
You know what is strange? Blue Savannah was played on US radio, but did well in, of all places, TEXAS! It charted at #1 on three Texas radio stations. Maybe if US radio would get their heads out of their a**es and play a more eclectic mix of music; we wouldn't hear the same freaking song on the radio 12 times an hour. And maybe, just MAYBE the world would be a better place!
ARGH! I feel better now. ;)

I am for real. Here's a link to the playlist http://www.kezr.com/pages/22955.asp which took me forever to find, because they aren't a radio station that is really about the music. Here is an edited copy of the current playlist.

Thank you for the link! I am ecstatic about this album. Not only because it is BRILLIANT, but because it may also bring them back into the limelight. I am SO looking forward to a new album of new material. If it sounds remotely like "Searching" or "Tell it to Me", I'm sure that we are in for a pleasant surprise.
"Searching" is so different from what I'm used to from the boys, but a welcome change! Of course, I loved the album mix of "Moon and the Sky" from "Loveboat" for the same reason. Different territory completely!
Now if only they could re - mix "Loveboat" with a bit less bass and re-release it, I'd be one happy camper! :)
Thanks again for the link. :)

My first Erasure Forum Posting:
I also heard Solsbury Hill today on 89.5 In Seattle Washington. It is a dance music station. It was the first time I had heard the cover and I must say that it was nice. Also nice to hear synthpop on airwave radio. Speaking of witch the even played Iris's Annie Would I Lie to You. This station has some possibilities. I called and told them too keep playing it. I think I'll post this in the Iris area also.

Wow, the West Coast is fortunate...they had a dance music station here for a little while, but all they played was crappy techno IMO. When that didn't go over, they switched to hip-hop. :(
Yes, radio stations need to lose their playlists! I too am sick of hearing the same songs every hour. One station I used to listen to as a teenager was so bad, they would play this one song at the same time every hour! Seriously! I could figure out what time it was just by listening for that song.
On a side note: Does anyone know if the Ebx1 and Ebx2 sets are still in print? I found Ebx3 and 4 in a store and really enjoyed them. Well, maybe not "91 Steps" (were they bored when they did that? hehehehehehe), but the rest of the tracks were awesome!

We JUST got box sets #1 and #2... Go here: www.adifferentdrum.com I just went there and they seem to be out, but maybe you could email Todd there and double-check. Even if you don't find them there, you might try looking at: www.mutelibtech.com (The Mute Bank)
I was VERY happy with them, except one omission: The Unfettered Mix of "Chains of Love", which is my personal fave... Oh well. Best of luck!
Jamie (Efreak)
BTW... 91 Steps... I hated that one too. :)

Thanks, Jamie...actually, I ordered Ebx1 from Todd and he sent me an email telling me it was backordered. :( So I wasn't sure if I could still get a new copy of this or Ebx2. Hope you feel better, BTW! :)

Well, guess what? Erasure is back in TEXAS !!! :) There's a new dance music station in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area that plays "Solsbury Hill" quite often. I started dancing like mad the first time I heard it. The other drivers must have thought I was nuts!

It was a fantastic show... Erasure has arguably the best live show of any band I've seen. It is on par with a major Madonna concert in terms of Stage design, dancers & creativity. I've been to every concert since The Innocents tour (1987 when I was 17 years old - my best year!!) The Wild Tour was my favourite. I actually met them 4 times that year also (Twice backsatge at Massey Hall as we waited outside for them, once at Much Music & then we ran into them on Bloor Street! I even got their autographs twice!) Then years later me & my partner met then at the Sutton Place Hotel when they were in Toronto for the Cowboy tour. We decided to stay overnight at the hotel so we could go clubbing after the show. When we arrived at the hotel to check in.. there was Vince & Andy outside talking with their manager. My BF was in total shock at meeting them while I was very calm but thanked them for years of great music that really helped me to get through my teens!! No luck meeting them this time though. : (

Well, I just saw them here in Detroit this week. I really LOVED the show... it was better than I expected, and certainly better than the last time I saw them. But everytime I've seen them since the Phantasmagorical tour that supported the "Chorus" album, they've had a stripped down visual show. Usually just a solemn Vince, flamboyant Andy and a couple of backup singers. The concerts are still great because they SOUND better than most other shows I've seen (Andy sings like nobody else and Vince's mixes are perfect), but I haven't seen the stage show Dani described (with full dancers/stage production) in a long time.
But I'm not complaining. The setlist they're playing for this tour is the best they've ever done. I loved every second of the concert. And the new mix of "I Can't Help Falling In Love With You" that they're performing puts the album version to shame. And, OH! "Rock Me Gently" performed EXACTLY the way you might dream it could be. What a great song that is.

Hello Mark,
I disagree with you about a stripped down show... both The Phantasmagorical Tour & Cowboy had dancers and excellent stage production. I'm not referring to 15 dancers like Madonna or Kylie Minogue had on their last tour but there definitely were dancers/back-up vocalists. The Phant. Tour had lots of costume changes, different sets, Erasure Bingo with the boys at intermission (at least here in Toronto), and an entire Abba set. It was not as elaborate as Wild it is true but it was an above par concert both in quality of live singing, themes and crystal clear sound. The Cowboy Tour was also elaborate with a Western theme, plastic Cactus (Cactii??) 2 male dancers who wore horse costumes and chaps! (I think that qualifies as stage production.) That show had a very very short set and the new tour was a lot better, but still a strong effort. I don't believe that they had the huge sales with the Erasure/Cowboy/Loveboat albums that they had with previous albums so they probably had a lower production budget. When a lot of major mainstream bands cannot even get a projection show together for a live concert (or even perform or sing live for that matter) I think Erasure is unparralleled as a live act.

Jamie: Oh man, now I'm going to have to stop playing my Erasure CDs in my car, because they make me dance like I'm having an epileptic fit! Glad to hear you're feeling better...thanks for the plug! :) I'm waiting to hear from Todd on Ebx1...hopefully he'll get it in his next shipment. Will check the Mute Bank if I have to. Thanks again!

Saw the show @ MSG,thanks to Anna Swanky who made tickets possible and me and my girl ~loved~ it. It was very flamboyant and glam and just what the doctor ordered. For a straight guy, I was pretty darn impressed. And he looked good in that dress.

I agree with Mark, I felt the show was a little stripped down as well. I also agree that the set-list was outstanding! To hear "Rock Me Gently" and "Ship of Fools" really did it for me!
