Over the years certain newer songs kind of remind me of a synthpop prom. I dont mean that in a bad way...just imagine if there was a really cool prom. But when I hear these songs start up at a club it just reminds me like Im at a prom:

VNV Nation "Beloved"
VNV Nation "Standing"
Wolfsheim "Once In A Lifetime"
Echo Image "Neverending Story"

ehh, if only I had someone to go to said prom with^_^

I don't recall my prom too much. My hormones were raging so hard over what to do after the prom, I don't remember if they played music. I remember my date, and the fact that my friend's date had NO intention of doing ANYTHING after the prom except go home. I hate when that happens.

I skipped my prom. My girlfriend dumped me the day before it, after I'd already spent a lot of cash. So I took some friends (who also didn't want to go) and we partied all night. Almost got arrested. Was fun.

But... in 7th grade, I went to a dance in middle school. There was a little cover band playing lots of stuff. Mostly what was popular at the time. But they threw in "A Little Respect" at one point.

I don't remember the "theme" of my senior prom.

I do, however, remember my high school boyfriend's prom. (He and I went to different high schools.)

The theme of their prom? "Forever Young."

I remember, they even gave out these souvenir, invitation-type-thingies. (I don't know what they're called.)

On the front was the name of the school, the date, and the words "Forever Young."

You opened it up, and on the inside were the lyrics to the entire Alphaville song.

Now that I'm....um....older, I appreciate those lyrics so much.
I didn't fully understand it at the time, because I was young when the song first came out....but it's a song about youth. More importantly, it's about appreciating our youth; because although it's a beautiful song, none of us can truly be "Forever Young."

"Some are like water, some are like the heat
Some are a melody and some are the beat
Sooner or later, they all will be gone.
Why don't they stay young?
It's so hard to get old without a cause
I don't want to perish like a fading horse.
Youth's like diamonds in the sun
and diamonds are forever."

To this day, it's probably the most beautiful prom theme I can imagine.

OK, I'm done feeling all old and sentimental now.

Too bad my high school wasn't even cool enough to have a theme I remember.

Our "theme" was probably really lame in comparison. I must have blocked it from my memory.

Or, I really am old.

Damn.

I went to my senior prom, but it was horrible. I had poor taste in clothes, and wore this really butt-ugly poofy pink dress. The DJ kept playing C&C Music Factory, so my date and I left shortly after the dinner portion of the evening was done. At least my date was pretty cool!

There was a "prom" of sorts at the end of 8th grade, kind of a last hurrah before going to high school. Everybody just went stag, and the DJ played really good music. I especially remember them playing "Just Can't Get Enough", the version off of Speak and Spell. To this day, that version of the song reminds me of school dances and good times....

I remember that we had a prom...I don't remember going...but then again 1982-1985 are still a big blur...

I didn't go to mine...but I remember there was a petition going around the senior class to get the Wu-Tang Clan off a ban list the administrators had for the DJ. Apparently the Wu was not well received by the powers that be when played at one of the prior dances. I also remember some theme around that Boys 2 Men song On Bended Knee. D;

i never attended my prom, i never wanted to.

the people i hung out with in high school were basically the 1 or 2 electro-kidİ from each school.

so if we all hung out it was like 9 - 10 different schools worth of "rejects"

the concept of the prom never interested me.

i did like dances because i got at least one or two tracks spun.

a prom was paying too much money to get in.

paying money to dress up in a tux that made me uncomfortable.

hanging out with people who called me "fag" for 12 years.

and crappy catering.

so when prom time came i saved up all my money and went to a couple concerts instead and had an amazing time.

And how could I forget? Meg also used to hold a Prom at her house! A bunch of us would dress up, bring our dates (or not), and have a good time. In general, I wasn't all that interested in school dances. I went to Prom my senior year because I felt like if I didn't go, I would always wonder if I missed anything. Too bad the evening turned into a big waste of money :( Which is why Meg's proms were so much better - we listened to music we liked, hung out with the people we wanted to, and didn't have to pay $75 a ticket to go. I'm surprised more kids don't do this, especially if they hate the people they go to school with.
