I keep reading reviews and articles that refer to DM as goth,or making goth-pop music.
And then I always hear them being called Depressed Mode for their gloomy music and then I seen a specail on goth culture in the music scence. Someone on it said bands like Depeche Mode and the Cure brought goth to mainstream long b4
NIN and Manson did. Now the question is do you think fo DM as a goth band?

No, I don't think of dM as a Goth band. I think that they transcend all that. They make great music that touches people, whether it be Goth or not. I think that Goths just happen to like this band.

i'm with stephanie.. i think that dm's catalog has something for every taste, from the really blippy and cheesy to the more sinister textures and then there's stuff that's just heavy!
i think a lot of dm's music is quite uplifting, especially the way try walking in my shoes sort of just lifts up there with the slides and strings..

DM goth??? No no way...I've heard them being called Depressed Mode for years...It's just because of their longevity and similar time-frame, they get looped in with Cure fans, and I don't know why, because theres nothing goth about the music really...Well their old stuff anyway...Kinda dancey to me :)

That is true there music trancends all borders, that is what makes them unique. Some of their songs has a dark gothic vibe to it and I have heard their music played at goth clubs. They have something for everyone-goth or not.

Agreed. Thats the beautiful thing about DM. You can go to their concerts and see all kinds of people... young, old.... goth, punk, "preppy" (for lack of a better term), etc. Same goes with The Cure as well, though not to such a great extent.
I've noticed alot of alt rock and indie bands have also been heavily influenced by them.... Kent, Smashing Pumpkins, etc etc etc.....
