What’s everyone’s favorite Industrial release of 2002, and why? Personally, I’d have to say Feindflug’s ‘[Hirnschlacht]’, as they’re one of my favorites who seem to capture the very essence of Industrial, and don’t even need lyrics to do so.

I would have to second the Stromkern "Armageddon" vote but also add Assemblage 23 "Defiance" and Goteki "O/S"

Who is this 'Stromkern'? What other bands would their style compare to? I still consider myself fairly new to the Industrial scene.
I felt 'Defiance' was a good album, for some reason though, a lot of the songs just seemed weaker than 'Failure'. Perhaps it'll grow on me more in time. Light and Lullaby are really good though....

Informatik's Nymphomatik release probably gets my vote. I just love all of the melodies and hooks in this album. The lyrics are also awesome!

Overhyped hip hop tinged industrial from Wisconsin....with slight twinges of Ben Folds Five live. Wasnt SMP doing this a decade ago? But hey, I kind of dig "Thug Riders in the West Coast Skies".
As for best industrial band cds of 2002..is there even that many 'industrial' bands anymore? Besides Hocico, Suicide, :W:, and a few others I really havent heard much about such bands since the late 90's. I bought 'Mindstrip', and was amazed that this was a '2001' release...sounded more like it was from 1992. Maybe it was a reprint?
'doo doot doo doot doo doo doo doot'..Helllllllraiiiiisssseeeerrrrr!'

good question... still thinking about it myself. if you're limiting it to industrial releases, I guess that eliminates my vote for Ladytron's "Light & Magic", so I think I'd also go with A23's "Defiance", and probably put Informatik's "Nymphomatik" in second place.

My vote goes for the Overhyped (??) hip hop tinged industrial from Wisconsin with slight twinges of Ben Folds Five live that SMP was doing a decade ago after KMFDM did it band - otherwise known as Stromkern!
Armageddon has quite a bit of variety compared to many of the other releases.
And, dammit, I like variety.

The best for me is In Strict Confidence 'Mistrust The Angels', it´s a very good industrial-electro-dark album. :)

I second Juanlu on this one although I have to make honorable mention to Funker Vogt's Survivor, Project Pitchfork's Inferno and Hocico's signos de aberracion.
Worst 2002 industrial release : Wumpscut's latest one...sorry but this is just inaudible

Not to be picky (but I am a Virgo) both Stromkern and the :Wumpscut: came out in 2001..
I think the Goteki could be CD of the year, but definitely not "industrial" CD of the year..
Stromkern's latest single: "Realign" is good though..
Hocico's latest offering is about as close to "industrial" as has been mentioned and I like that disc alot..
I've been getting into a band called Sulpher. Coldwave from Germany.. the full length is called "Spray"
Also another good newer industrial band the check out: The Retrosic: "Prophecy" been compared to early :Wumpscut: This is some really good stuff. The kids love the new single off off Septic III called "Antichrist"
Finally has anyone heard of this band called Jesus loves Amerika, from the UK?.. I hear their freshman release is killer..

If you liked 'Prophecy' be sure to check out the 2002 EP 'Messa di Requiem', which is infinitely better IMHO.
And 'Anti-christ' proves that he is still evolving. I am really looking forward to his new album, which should be out in Summer.

You know, to be honest, I haven´t heard too much with the bands you mentioned. I know about them but haven´t heard anything with them. Like Stromkern, In strict confidence, Informatik. Have these been around for a long time or something?

coldwave? that is soooo over. heh (-: that died with Re-Constriction, and I have to say thank god. all that junk like SMP and 16 Volt and Hate Dept. was just a little too much for me, totally overblown sound. although Numb can stick around, that would be cool (-: it's only been like 4 years since their last album, what's takin' them so long?

I would prolly vote for:
Sleepwalk - Torture Chamber (ltd. edition)

S'kern's Armageddon was the best release in 2001, tho I can see why people thought it came out in 2002 cuz it came out late (Oct) that year. As for them being overhyped, what??? They make some of the most layered, passionate and original music out there. Sure, there's some of the same hip-hop influences as SMP, but it's definitely a different sound. Just listen to SMP's "September (s'kern mix)" to hear how the different sounds mesh.
Plus, people are still sucking down the newest A23/VNV/Apop discs like there's no tomorrow, and they don't carry NEARLY as much emotion behind them. Now THAT'S overhyped.
And Ben Folds live? Have you ever even *seen* Ben Folds live?!:)
Anyway, the best albums of 2002 were, IMHO, Hocico's "Signos," Feindflug's "Hirnschlacht," Imperative Reaction's "Ruined," and Null Device's "Sublimation"
I'm also digging Terrorfakt's newest disc "Kalte Stahl Herz".
Bella Morte's latest, too.

Hard to choose, but here are my three fav. albums of 2002 (in no particular order):
VNV Nation - Futureperfect
PP - The triology (you must listen to them all to appreciate)
Funekr Vogt - Survivor
As for SK: 's Armageddon...I thought it was OK but nothing speciel. The vocals are a bit muffled and don't come out very clear. I mean honestly, who here can get all the lyrics by just listening? They are using too much echo; on every song, it sounds like he's standing in a huge cave or empty concert hall and singing/talking. Also, I've never been a fan of hip-hop/rap. The remix of Night Riders is good, though :)
BTW, I think I have a very limited edition of Armageddon. On the CD case is printed "Armageddon", and the booklet also, but on the actual CD, is printed: "Perfect Remix"...LOL, is it supposed to be like that?

Oh totally. Actually the whole industrial thing for the most part is so dated...sad there are still bands that try to sound like its 1992.

Oh BFF is the sh*t! They even have a song that makes reference to the industrial scene("underground")
As for the new VNV/Apop/A23...I will agree with you on the latter two. VNV...even though I only liked maybe half the tracks, it was still one of my fave albums of 2002(next to the new Luke Slater and the new Covenant)
But yeah, that 2002 Apop...yikes!

Eheheh,
I agree that BFF was the ¤¤¤¤. I saw them live, too. I just fail to see how S'kern is like them. I mean, Ned's hair is kinda Ben Foldsy, and they have a ton of energy.
Maybe I just missed the point, is all.
As for VNV, I've been so sick of Ronan's whiny pandering after the last couple years of hearing it. I like Electronaut and Epicentre alright, and I love all of "Empires," but I'm getting really bored with the rest.
Angels and Agony's track "Forever" is better than almost anything on the last VNV/Apop/A23, too. I believe Ronan produced it, too, so kudos to him.

I really liked Fiendflug's "Hirnschlacht", ISC's "Mistrust The Angels" & Hocico's "Signos de Aberracion".
RE:Stromkern, how is this conversation even taking place? Stromkern RAWKS! I've seen them many times, and every time they've blown away the other acts that played on the same night, with the possible exception on VNV. E-Craft, Icon of Coil, etc, none could withstand the might that is Stromkern. :)

I'm pretty sure In Strict Confidence and Informatik have been around for a while. I'd suggest checking out both, their music would probably appeal to you. My personal favorites if ISC are 'Stripped' (a Depeche Mode cover), and 'Zauberschloss'. 'Entropy' and Oblivion' are great Informatik tracks, if that'll help you in your searching.
As for Stromkern, I can't say anything about them, since I've yet to look into them myself. From the sounds of it, I'm not going to like it considering I don't care for hip hop or anything like it.

download a few tracks off of stromkern.com. It's not "Hip-Hop"-influenced like I'd consider SMP or, obviously, ACTUAL hip-hop, but it's got some of the rhythms. I know tons of people who hate rap that eat it up.
Just my opinion, o' course.

I can hardly consider VNV Nation's and Assemblage 23 latest albums to be industrial at all. If anything I'd vote for Hocico then, not matter how much I also like VNV or A23. Next thing Miss Kitten and Erasure will also be called Industrial...

What are you talking about, dude? Erasure are industrial godfathers!!! "Wonderland" is the first REAL industrial album, you know. Jeez, hit the books, pal.
