View Full Version : viewing EGN on a Mac

im using an iMac at work right now, and hope to get a Titanium Powerbook in the near future, but there's a few things i think i should point out to the web designer.
these are some things i've noticed when viewing this page using IE 5 on Mac OS 9:
1. sometimes the links just below the row of buttons along the top overlap the buttons visually, but clicking in that area will result in clicking the buttons - sometimes, that is (not doing it now for whatever reason)
2. the profiles of users dont show up in the forums - unless they actually sign their name at the bottom of their post, i cant see who posted what and when.
otherwise everything is nice and slick. the player for the artists tracks works great - again the only complaint i have about that is the fact that you have to click on each individual track to hear them, rather than just have the charts stream or whatever.
im not sure if the problems i have found are a result of the webdesign or the fact that IE is not so special on a Mac, but i thought i'd bring these discoveries to light, incase anyone has the chance to try and fix them.
cheers,

I too use an iMac at work and have noticed these differences. Part of the problem for me is the fact that I'm not used to using a Mac. Before I started this job 3 weeks ago, I had never used one. Of course, Digitalia has probably been using that kind of computer for years, so maybe it's not me after all.

i concur...on an imac running os x i see these issues as well but yeah ie seems to be a hack version of its pc counterpart from what i've noticed.

i have my fingers crossed that Mac OS no longer comes with IE in the near future, they are supposed to be working out a deal to have Chimera as part of the operating system, the rumors say (for what they're worth)
since we have the discussion going - how do you folks like your Macs? this one at work is abit long in the tooth, but im psyched on getting a Powerbook using just OSX in the new year. i own a PC for doing my music on, and it's pretty revved up for those purposes, but if i want to do any location or live work, i need to get portable. the TiBook is sooooo sexy. that and Logic is my software of choice, and they were now bought by Apple. the integration with OSX looks like it's going to be amazing
this is usually a touchy issue for some, as ive met a few hardcore freaks that are either on one end of the scale or the other. i personally cant wait to be running both systems - provided they place nice together...
any other thoughts?

I haven't had any technical issues viewing on a Mac except one. The only technical problem is the rollover on 'mood' icon. It doesn't display the text that is written there.

i have an athlon tbird 1.4 at home and as far as working on graphics and such it blows the imac out of the water and the g4 as well when i'm at school. it seems to be os X slowing everything down but een my friend g3 is faster than those. i'm not a tech guru but i definately prefer my pc (and i can run 3ds max)
but hell those imac flat screens sure are neat and easy on the eyes. and i still can't let go of win2k...everything stylistically on the mac os (X) is rounded and pretty...it wastes space and annoys me. i even prefer os 9 over it.
another plus to the macs is the sound factor. my athlon sounds like a plance landing in my room with all the fans ineeded when it was a 'hot' new item.

Actually IE for MacOS 9 or MacOSX is BETTER then IE 5.0 as far as standards support goes. It has the same level of complience as Mozilla(Netscape 6.0+). This causes some websites to screw up because they aren't coded correctly. FWIW, The EGN looks fine from Mozilla I see no major differences between Mozilla and IE on Windows.
IE for windows also likes to *fix* webpages which really messes up the webpage because designers only worry about how it looks in IE on windows.
Now with the new emergence of ways to access the internet(PDAs, CellPhones) hopefully people start coding more to standards(IE 5+,Mozilla, and Netscape 6+ all support the basic standards). This makes it so pages degrade nicely from new browsers to older ones.

Guys, if you're using a Mac OS below 10, use Explorer 5.1 and you shouldn't have any problems.
