I remember a few years ago I posted on the synthpop list that I was headed out to see Lloyd Cole (Morrissey's rival back in the 80s England) in concert. I bring up Cole b/c Matthew Sweet played guitar and bass and did backup vocals on Cole's two first solo albums, "Lloyd Cole" (1990) and "Don't Get Weird on Me, Babe" (1991). I caught one of Sweet's live shows at the Gypsy Tea Room a few years ago as well. Sweet is very talented. "Back in the arms of a girlfriend....."

I can't really say Sweet's presence is too recognizable on Cole's first two solo albums, but the guitar is great on each album. So, in that instance, I guess you can say it is recognizable.
I personally don't have anything by Matthew Sweet. I just remember seeing him on MTV when MTV played cool music back in the late 80s/early 90s on 120 Minutes and Post Modern.
You just have a hatred for Moz. Don't you, Joel? hehe Well, I don't think Moz could play one tune on a guitar or make his own music. He's relied on Johnny Marr, Stephen Street, Boz Boorer, Vini Reilly, Alain Whyte, etc. to make his music. I do love Moz's voice and his lyrics. However, everyone has their own tastes.
