I may be dating myself, but who is into their music here? I liked most of what I had ever heard from them and not sure what happened to the band since I guess they had not done anything new in a long time, but they had some smoking tunes that still rock today!

I actually love most everything from Tin Drum and think this band stopped creating music way too soon in their careers. They could have gone on like Duran Duran did under more favorable circumstances.

I've actually followed this band from the early 80s up til David Sylvians and Steve Jansens (who are brothers in fact) current solo projects. Huge fan here. :) I was really happy a few years back when the company I work for reissued all the Sylvian stuff, remastered and repackaged!
In 1984 when David Sylvian released his first solo album Brilliant Trees it was liberating for him to be able to see his vision through with out the democracy of other band members opinions. He's had a really decent career so I'm not too sad about the japan break up. in fact in 1990 they kind of did get back together for Rain Tree Crow (which Virgin records wanted him to call Japan but Sylvian refused) but couldn't get along well enough and by the time the time of the release they all weren't talking again.
He's an odd one; for instance, he never refers to the first three Japan albums; its like they don't exsist. LOL But regardless I think he's an amazingly gifted and talented musican and songwriter. One of my all time favorites.

Japan was in that innovative circle of bands of the time period as far as I am concerned. Sylvian was also on edge with his solo stuff. Excellent primers of what was hip for that time, for sure.
