Okay, just a question here. I consider myself well-read. I have been a fan of Erasure for 14 years. About 5 months ago, I got into an Erasure group on MSN, and met a woman named ****. She told me that she spoke (on a regular basis) with Andy on the phone and offered a telephone 'conference call' with him. Needless to say, I lived in Pennsylvania (USA), and she, on the other side of the continent. (California) I got a call at about 3 in the morning, and I spoke for three hours with who I thought (and still think) was Andy Bell.
He sang on the phone, (actually put the phone on speaker-phone and did a few numbers for *** and I.) And we talked about Erasure's upcoming album, some of their old stuff, and even chatted about his appearance on the Rosie O'Donnell show. I swear that it was him, or I (eek?) could be wrong. What do you think,? And if you want to say that I am a total airhead, feel free. :)
I appreciate any and all input.
Best,
Efreak (Jamie)
p.s Keep in mind that **** phoned me for three hours from California, which would have been a TOTAL waste of her money, not mine. :)

Well, anything is possible I suppose. It is a little bizarre that Andy has nothing else to do. What was this woman's connection with Andy Bell? And why did she offer you this opportunity as opposed to someone else? Then again, she paid for the call. You had nothing to lose from the conversation...except for some sleep. :)

well that is definitely an interesting story if nothing else. that is pretty cool. i hope it was him. because it would be really neat for you if it was. i still get pretty tongue tied when i meet some of my fave groups. but anyways. let us know if you can verify this in any way.

She is friends with Mr. Bell, according to her. The strange thing is, is that I have a couple of Erasure interview discs, and it sounded VERY much like him. The singing was a bit off-key, but had that certain je ne sais quoi. I imagine it DOES in fact sound a bit far-fetched, but who knows? I take comfort in knowing that I spoke to THE Andrew Ivan Bell. As for any secrets about the new album? I didn't ask. Far be it for l'il ol' me to be THAT presumptuous. But he did tell me that Rosie O'Donnell was "a phony", (I am not quoting him, but the way he spoke of her, I kinda got that impression.) I also suggested that he do a cover of "Xanadu", by Olivia Newton-John. He found it interesting, but I wouldn't hold my breath. BTW, she met him in Erasure chat on AOL, and I guess they hit it off, due to their same fondness for cats. I guess the reason that he wanted to talk to me, was that I had an Erasure webpage, and made a few comments, (okay... 'constructive' criticism) on a couple of their b-sides... Most notably the following... (And my reviews of those two songs:)

"Don't Say No" - Why not?!?! I did!
-AND-
"91 Steps" - 83 steps too many.

So, there you have it. Thanks to both of you for your views on this! :)

Best,
Jamie

I learned a valuable lesson, though. Be careful what you write in a webpage that can be viewed by millions... Or maybe the LAST person on EARTH you think might see it.

Whoopsie!

I also think that anythings impossible, but I'm really skeptical at the same time. What you said about him singing off-key... I have a tape where he's talking into a tape recorder, and then sings "there's magic in the air" mid-sentance, and it doesn't sound like him at ALL. So I believe this a little because of that :) But the part about the friend meeting him on AOL... I don't know about that. There are SO many Andy Bell imposters on AOL and... yeah. It's totally possible that it was him but be careful :) Those are just my opinions :)

Cool to hear.
But still, as someone else already said, you didnīt loose anything on this.

And I guess that it was him after all, I mean why start commenting on your webpage and everything if he hadnīt anything to do with Erasure. :D

Considering the lack chart success for Erasure, in the last seven years, your web pages are probably more famous than he is, these days. Andy was probably pleased to talk to anyone who was still interested in Erasure!
