Hello all,
Does anyone know much about a software package called Translator, by Chicken Systems? I caught a review on Electronic Musician's web site that praised it pretty good. Apparently it is a universal translator between sampler formats. I found it when I was looking around for something that might translate other sampler format to EMAX II. Turns out this one does.
If anyone has it, or has used it before, what do you think of it? How well does it work? The EM review was very positive, but Ialways take press reviews with a grain of salt.

CDXTRACT looks interesting, although it doesn't support EMAX format at the moment, which is what I need to convert to.

Hey David V.,
Do you know if this new software supports the Roland S-550? I am looking to transfer samples from the 550 format to wav and Akai.

Here's what I found on their web site regarding the Roland S-550:
"Roland S-7x/50/550/330/W30 to Akai/Pulsar/MESA Translation" (supported)
"Roland S-7x/50/550/330/W30 to Akai S-5000 Translation" (supported)
"Akai MPC Translation Status
Code is currently being written, with the beta stage scheduled in the next couple of weeks. "
"There are no plans to translate sounds TO the Roland S-50/550. However, every translation that uses the Roland S-7x as a SOURCE can also accept .out files (the ones made by SDisk), and S-50/550 Patches from hard drive/CD-ROM. So you can convert S-50 sounds into Giga, EXS, Akai, etc."

Hi;
I waited long and hard for CDXtract and Translator to release a Mac version. Translator was the first one to introduce an introductory price for Translator Mac ($50), so I jumped at the chance. Little did I know that it would take almost 6-7 months for them to slowly port new translations!! They initially came out with the EXS destination. I waited long and hard for the Halion translation, which is finally here... Now, on the PC side, this stuff has been developed and working for a number of years, with plenty of satisfied customers. I also have some friends that use CDXtract on their PC with plenty of success. They are both pretty comparable. So, check out their interface, get a demo if you can, and see which one you like better. I didn't have a choice back then..... :)

I think both will perform admirably well, assuming the file type you need to convert to is supported. One thing about CDXTRACT is that it is available for purchase-download, so no waiting. Also, Translator by Chicken Systems requires some sort of odd ASPI driver which CDEXTRACT doesn't.
So I chose CDEXTRACT (just bought it tonight, but it does take 24 hours for a real person to approve the sale and send over a download link).
